Question about going to Vegas re: ammo

I'll be in Vegas next weekend and was wondering if ammo is cheaper and/or more readily available there than here in California. Any information would help. I'm looking to pick up some 9mm and maybe some 5.56/.223. I haven't been up to Vegas in 2 years and the last time I went, I wasn't looking for ammo.

    Any info would help, thanks.

Also, if there is a better place to put this question, just let me know.

Don't think you'll save a penny buying there vs. CA. And don't know why you can't find 9mm or 5.56. Buy it online, buy it local, or check Bass Pro Shops out in Vegas since they usually have ammo on the shelves. 22LR is probably hard to find there as well though. Been a few months since I've been out there but don't expect things to be less expensive.

Was there in November. Pricing/availability wasn't any different than here.

          no difference.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

Ahh thanks for the insight, wasn't sure. I usually buy online, but trying to wait for a free shipping deal.

It's still fun to go to Bass Pro Shops.
I swing by there now and then.
Last weekend, the shelves were fully stocked.

Wal Mart selection has been pretty decent.
Especially the stores on Fort Apache/Tropicana, and Rainbow/Spring Mountain.
              Tons of 5.56, .40, and .45.

The rest of the gun stores are at "normal" retail prices, which means you won't save anything over Cali prices.

No gun shows next weekend, but there's one at the Sport Center the 26th-27th, although I always recommend to people not to attend.
The majority of the stuff there is Indian Jewelery and rocks.
When they have the shows at Cashman and South Point, I'll usually go.
Bitterroot Valley (BVAC) has really good factory reloads at decent prices. Clean, reliable, and accurate.
Miwall always has a huge selection too. Factory and factory reloads.

I go to Vegas alot on business, the prices are the same. It used to be easier to find the Federal 100rnd 9mm bulk packs at Walmart there. But not worth it now, since they raised their prices.

I know a guy that has a shop there and ammo and components are the same price or I would have bought it all. Guns can be slightly less, especially used ones.

I want to go to Ventura Munitions there. They are pretty close to the strip. I've ordered some 9mm from them back in the day and it was a good price. I think you can even order online and pick up there. Save on some shipping and sales tax.

The one time it makes sense to me was when I bought ammo for a class in NV from a company that normally charges CA sales tax. Have the ammo shipped to the hotel, if they accept shipments for guests. Since all of the ammo is used up for class, no issue of CA Use Tax at all...

Sportsman's Guide is one such retailer. Decent ammo prices, but the addition of CA sales tax makes it a poor choice for us Californians (they also charge CA sales tax on shipping, how stupid is that?)

I dont know about Vegas but I was in Salt Lake City in Feb last year (so just a few weeks after sandy hook...) and I found over 800 rounds of 9mm 147gr Speer GDHP. All in 50 round boxes going for about $27 each! Bought every single box and ended up having to buy a second pelican case to transport it with because I couldn't fit it all in my first case (I had flown into SLC).

Utah is a bit out of the way though, Vegas is WAY more popular and close to California which means I doubt you'll have the same luck there.

SGammo is WAY better than sportsmans guide. Cheaper ammo, cheaper shipping, much better availability...etc.
