a respirator does help but lead is also absorbed through the skin.

Lead causes birth defects. Plain and simple, Lead also causes cancer. I hate to say it, but its the downside to shooting cheap lead ammunition. We all are at future risk of some form of cancer.

BBs & Airsoft rifles usually contain traces of lead the machines that make it usually have lead. The CAMO brand BBs in the cans are usually COVERED in lead powder.

My wife is currently working on #3, we looked into this a few years ago with #1. She SHOULD NOT go shooting. The biggest things are, in no particular order, the lead: handling ammo isn't a big deal, it's not going to leech into your skin, but don't go and eat finger-foods without thoroughly washing hands. This goes for all of us just as much as it does for her, btw. I believe there's also some concern about inhaling lead, and I don't know how valid that one is. I don't know how much lead particulate is going to be wafting around in the air, but it makes sense. If it's true, the RSOs should all be wearing dust masks tho, shouldn't they? Lastly, I judge sound do be the biggest offender. The kiddo can hear the tv at a medium volume that we all listen to it at. It's common that when some woman stays at home and every day she watches like some particular soap opera or something, the kid will hear and learn the theme song, and when it hears the show start, shift and move in order to listen along. Serious. If the kid can hear the tv show theme song, it can REALLY hear 7.62x39 with a muzzle brake. It'll damage the kid's hearing just as fast as it'll damage ours with no protection, if not more so.

Sound travels further in water that in air. The molecules are in direct contact. Humans are 90% water= deaf baby.
Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.
