This is what liberal politicians of California is afraid of. Armed militia trying to defend against aggression by the federal government. I'm not saying the rancher is innocent (since he does technically owe the federal government money for grazing his cattle), but when the government tries to take 1,000 of your cows, you have to fight back. Any of our calgunners go to this event? The article says a few from California showed up in support of the militia.

Side note: Some sources say the land originally belong to the Bundy family, but the federal government took away their rights to protect a endangered tortoise species. Also, apparently the government is trying to build a massive solar farm on that same land.

The interesting thing about this is that the government backed down to pressure from an armed militia. Typically when anything like this happens, they go through "lessons learned" and try to enact some new policy so this type of thing doesn't happen again. I don't see them simply turning around and tucking tail. "Militia" gatherings are already illegal in many places and I wouldn't be surprised if those types of laws are expanded and/or people who were at this event face repercussions. This may even trigger some kind of national firearms law that prevents things like this from happening. Liberals aren't the only people who are afraid of this...if you thing conservatives are innocent of trying to exert their power on the people then you need to wake up. This is a wake up call for both sides and it may be much easier for them to come to an agreement on what needs to be done.

Yup. The politburo in Sacramento is terrified of both your point above and the threat of armed citizens refusing to to go quietly into serfdom and rebelling wholesale.

Not quite correct. The land is federal BLM land used by the buddy's for many decades. Some would say that this in effect created an easement in favor of the Bundys.

HOWEVER, the issue is that the Feds want to build a huge solar farm in Nevada, but NOT on this land. What the Feds want this land for is "wildlife habitat mitigation". They want to relocate all the desert tortoises impacted by their solar farm to the land used by the Bundys cattle ranching operation. That would make the Bundy lands "tortoise habitat" and off limits to ranching/ cattle ( non indigenous species).

Actually this is more about the Bundy's theft from us (the public at large) of grazing rights.

BLM leases land use to ranchers for cattle grazing for a nominal fee. That land (BLM lands) belong to all of us, and are for public use! Plus BLM has the right to revoke grazing rights for violations or non-payment.

Bundy has not paid the required grazing fees and has lost in court multiple times trying to fight it.

As pointed out in this article:

"Cattle have been grazing in trespass on public lands in Southern Nevada for more than two decades," the National Park Service said. Except the situation in California is worse. We've banned any open carry, so there will be no 'show-of-force' stage. It doesn't make any sense to go protest, get tazed arrested and your guns taken away. The state forced a situation where any battles will either be fought underground or right to the shooting stage as soon as you step out your front door.

Beats me. But the courts have determined that he was legally obligated to pay the fees and that he was not legally entitled to graze his cattle on public lands without paying the fees and that he is not legally entitled to continue to graze his cattle on public lands.

So the bottom line appears to be that he is trying to do by force what the courts have said he may not lawfully do.
