    Chronometer recommendations?

    Hi all,
I just wanted to get some information and or suggestions as to what brand and model chronometer out on the market is most reliable under most conditions. I borrowed a friends chronometer today and it worked fine under cloudy conditions. however, once the sun started to peep out it just stopped working. Tried to reset, it, remove the battery, re-install it, move the thing into the shade, reseated the connections to it, etc.... I'm looking to buy a new one but before I take this plunge would like to see if anyone has any good experiences or directions.
Hopefully I posted this in the right forum.

    Thanks all,
    R.

The magnetospeed doesn't have the lighting issues to deal with.

However... and this is from experience since I own one, they have limitations and annoyances.

    1. If you can't attach it to the muzzle, you can't use it. You might be able to get away with it on some revolvers, not gonna happen on a semi auto pistol.

    2. If you've already got the spacers set for one gun, great. If you need to change it... be prepared to play games stack spacers, messing with the screws for the spacers, messing with the strap repeatedly to get it tightened down, it can get really ****ing aggravating.

I own the shooting chrony gamma model. I would suggest that you get as much memory for this thing as you can. Plus, it also helps to purchase the remote with this thing. It really makes a difference out at the range since there is so little time the RSO's will allow you to set this thing up.

Also; I built an infrared light curtain for this thing. Once I rigged up the light curtain, the performance improved a lot!

This thing already has an RS-232 port built into the device. All you need to do is get one of those cheap-o USB-2-RS232 converter devices and download a terminal program and you are good to go for downloading your results to a PC. By the way, the printer port connection IS the RS-232 port.

Do not purchase the printer for the gamma model. That dang printer is really a waste of money and a waste of time.

As to the RS-232 protocol .. Go to the nopLabs website to get a complete description of the protocol.

I basically did a capture session using the terminal emulator and captured the results to a TEXT file. I then ran the TEXT file using a PERL parser to format the results that can easily be loaded onto an Excel spreadsheet.

I love my Oelher 35P. Works well in sun or shade. They have great*service if you have any problems. I had a switch get set wrong so it quit printing, my fault, after more than 10 years and I sent it in to them. They fixed it and mailed it back at no charge! Not even for the postage.

Magneeto - no issues with lighting.

I have infrared light curtains in my living room, though, and find them very attractive and funtional.

The new magnetospeed supposed to address the hard to strap issue. We shall see.

Mine is an old model33 I have had many years. It was not cheap when purchased but has been worth every cent paid for it.

Maybe, but they've also jacked the price of the v3 up $100 over the cost of the v2(I actually paid a little under 300 for mine).

At that point that company making the doppler radar chrono that is supposed to cost under $500(they still don't have anything for sale yet) appear more interesting.
