Prepping plastic stock and forearm for painting

Hi Folks, I am having a devil of a time getting paint to adhere to the plastic parts of my shotgun, namely the butt stock and forearm. When I painted it, I prepped it with brake cleaner and another degreaser but the results show that it was not right.

What do you suggest to get the paint to stick?

    Thanks!

if the stocks are made of nylon paint may just not want to adhere, maybe try roughing up the surface a bit

also might just be the paint itself

some paints, like krylon fusion are made to adhere to plastics better

Did you degrease, scuff, then degrease again, then use a plastic primer? Then paint. Also when you go to paint, use a very light coat for 2 coats, then a medium coat, then a heavy after.

Thanks everyone. For the primer, I used rust oleum flat red primer. The label says prominently that it bonds to plastic. Not all plastic that's for sure.

Next time, after I get the paint off, I am going to degrease, De-gloss, use mineral spirits, scuff and scuff again and see what happens.

There are adhesion promoters you can buy. I've used one called bulldog, you can find it at auto part stores in the paint section. Spray it of your prepped plastic parts, let it cure and then paint.
