I am thinking about getting a "stack-on 8 gun security cabinet" but how will I be able to determine in advance if it will be acceptable as a "safe" in California without asking the salesperson?

What is a California Legal Safe?
Tags: None -
It has to have certain features, specs, and a number of possible combinations. The one you are looking at probably fits the bill. -
An acceptable gun safe is either one the following: A gun safe that meets all of the following standards: Shall be able to fully contain firearms and provide for their secure storage. Shall have a locking system consisting of at minimum a mechanical or electronic combination lock. The mechanical or electronic combination lock utilized by the safe shall have at least 10,000 possible combinations consisting of a minimum three numbers, letters, or symbols. The lock shall be protected by a case hardened (Rc 60+) drill resistant steel plate, or drill resistant material of equivalent strength.Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

If it has an "RSC - Residential Security Container" sticker it will be acceptable for the safe affidavit so you don't have to get a cable lock with long guns. That is all having a "CA compliant" safe gets you out of.
No. That is all negated by this part.
I would never consider a gun cabinet to be a safe. Get a real safe and bolt it down, you can pry open even the best gun cabinet in seconds using nothing more than a screw driver and a hammer to knock it between the door and the frame.or
All of the following requirements:
Is listed as an Underwriters Laboratories Residential Security Container;
Is able to fully contain firearms;
Provides for the secure storage of firearms.Last edited by JDay; 03-29-2014, 10:06 PM.Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

Wow Great, good to know about the sticker too. Since I will be moving late next year from my condo into my house I am wanting something almost portable that will save me buying more locks every time I make a purchase. Big 5 has a thirty day rule so I have saved money purchasing within the 30 days and that has helped save some money and saving $10.00 each purchase will certainly pay for a Cabinet this year or next. Seems like good business to get the cabinet now and when we move into our house I can install the larger Safe. Thank you very much!Last edited by miniprepper; 03-30-2014, 9:59 AM.Comment

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

My bad, seeing the brand name for some reason made me read it as a 8-gun safe rather than cabinet.If it has an "RSC - Residential Security Container" sticker it will be acceptable for the safe affidavit so you don't have to get a cable lock with long guns. I kind of miss seeing gun cabinets around. I would love to see if someone could build a safe which looks like a cabinet. I'm sure we have the tech and materials to make it happen.Comment

They never ask for proof. I have been writing down that I have an approved safe for years. So Happens I have one but I never can remember the name.Comment

Surprised CA hasn't banned gun safes, but have them still be mandatory, yet. You know, "gun safes are only made to hold killing machines, why do you need an arsenal, something something about penises, muskets, blah blah blah..."sigpic
