What does gun ownership do for you?

What does gun ownership do you for? What about owning guns do most enjoy?

I'd imagine it's a combination of factors for most...just curious what your primary reasons are.

Of course this is not a definitive list...just some possibilities.

    ~sense of safety/security?
~sense of readiness should the SHTF?
    ~just like shooting targets/plinking?
~like the sense of history and the visceral and personal connection to history that certain guns have?
~gives you a sense of power?
~from a country where people were oppressed and not permitted to be armed?
~like the mechnical/engineering/ballisitics science side of it?
~participation in various gun sports: cowboy action, ISPC, benchrest, 3 gun, etc and the camaraderie?
    ~hunting?
    ~like the tactical/techno gadgetry?
    ~like tactical training

I like the noise, it's like going to the drag races ( the real ones, not the rice ones) but I'm the one in controll. I also enjoy sending evil cans and paper to their graves.

I enjoy target shooting, the sound and feel add to the fun, and the smell, burnt Gunpowder I love it.

The first time I ever felt like I was "in the zone" was at a 3gun competition, it was a great feeling. Plus everything in the list above, except the come from oppression part.

Gives me something to do. I'd rather be building and shooting guns, than being bored all the time and contemplating suicide. HAHA jk.

            I will vote for a donkey-sex maniac if he's pro-gun.

                +1 to this.

I think that our hobby isn't looked at as a disciplined sport. Kind of going along with stress relief, there is a sense of relaxation and also some accomplishment when you get that tight group you were practicing a long time to get. Those that do not participate in our hobby think things like "put the crosshair in the middle and pull the trigger." This is my meditation. Everything goes silent when I'm focused on my target, even if it is a gunshot from the table next to me.

I also like the smell of the burnt gunpowder. I think thats where the addiction comes from.

Honestly, its one of the few things I enjoy. Not really a stress reliever....
I'll go with security, and shooting primarily like the guy on the box of truth says "Its fun to shoot things."

I think we all qualify for the from a place where people were oppressed.... its called California :P

The muzzle blast, concussion, and the smell of sulphur lingering in the air. I love that smell. Smells like liberty!

Ultimately it is the knowledge that when the life of you or your family is at risk you need not depend on law enforcement, the military, or some bureaucrat to save your bacon. The Second Amendment gives you a fighting chance against those who would do you harm.
Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.

                      .

                      Couldnt have worded it better.

Along with it being a stress reliever...I am a sucker for big power. I shot a .454 Casull a couple days ago. Wow.

its challenging, i love making hard shot, tight groups, and seeing my skills improve, it gives me a sense of accomplishment,

working on guns and customizing them is just something that appeals to me naturally whether it is with cars, motorcycles, or anything else

in fact my hobbies actually progressed in that order, cars to motorcycles to guns,

Well, another reason for me is the stress relief factor. Also, as mentioned earlier, its a great thing to do to prevent boredom
