    Bug out bag revolver

    Hi All,

Does anyone have a suggestion or use some form of a smaller revolver that they put in their bug out bag? What is recommended to help with keeping it light and what effective ammo should be put in there.

I'm not looking to put in a massive S&W 500, I'm also not super familiar with revolvers so I was curious which popular models are smaller. I have a sr9c and I would like to find a comparing revolver to go with it.

    Thanks

I would say an SP101, not the smallest revolver in the world but tough enough to keep running right through a mid sized apocalypse.

Do remember that, while there will likely not be much concern when the emergency happens, until then the gun must be carried unloaded in a locked container, and without LTC you need to stay off school property.

My bob, if ever in my car, will be locked in my box and unloaded, shouldn't be a problem.

Out in Nevada, in my BOB, have ruger bearcat. Have about 150 rounds of 22lr, and 50 rounds in 22 short. I'm not expecting to engage in running battle, just something small and tidy to scare away the 2 legged predators but if I need to, catch small game.

If limited to wheel guns I would say a Smith & Wesson J Frame in .357 magnum.

You can run .38 special as well as powerful .357 magnum.

            They are high quality.

One example would be a Smith model 60. Stainless steel and strong.

I'd avoid the Taurus and Rossi, they're inexpensive but.... Eeeehhhh I'm not sold on their revolvers yet. Their autos are pretty good, especially the PT92, but I just don't know about their revolvers. I could be full of smoke, though.

I'd suggest you find a used SP101, S&W model 19, or maybe a GP100. All are sturdy, reliable wheel guns that won't fail you unless something drastic happens, and all fire .38/.357.

My ideal revolver setup though would be to find a used Colt model 1917 that has been already bubba'd, and then cut it down to a 2-1/2" barrel, CereKote it, add some nice gips, then give it a trigger job and smooth it out.

It fires .45 ACP which I find easier to locate and is more prevelant than .38 SPL or .357 Mag, it uses moon clips so you can reload it quickly, you save your brass (important in SHTF), and it's low on recoil thanks to the big, slow 20gr .45 ACP round. Plus, I just like them

I have to ask though... you sure about revolvers? Revolvers can also have many malfunctions, and while not as common as a semi auto when a revolver DOES have a malfunction, it's normally out of the fight until you can disassemble it completely and fix it.

I'm going for a revolver more for variety. This is if it does end up in the bag. It might not as I favor my sr9c over anything I've ever shot before. I just want a revolver round to add to the collection and have a backup to my primary's. I might end up having two BOB's in my truck anyways just in case a loved on is with me. Again that variety seems like a smart thing to do with the ammo shortage right now.

                  .22 mag

A couple of boxes of ammo won't weigh much but it's small and light and more powerful than .22 lr

                    Smith model 617 for .22 or a Ruger Sp101 for .38/.357

I would carry a 627 UDR, 8 rounds of 357 would be great. It would be easy for me since I am 6'5"

Another option would be a s&w 610 just because of the abundance of 40s&w ammo
