Catching brass at the range from a pistol?

I'd like to reload 9mm - and .308 - but the brass goes everywhere. I was thinking about making a loop of wire and rigging up a trash bag, but that would look goofy and may not be effective.

Any suggestions for something to catch it?

lol! is that because the range has a rule if it touches the grounds its theirs type thing?

I reload, and know exactly what you mean. The range near me has employees at the ready with brooms ready to sweep your brass after unloading a magazine. Makes me want to use a brass catcher for my pistols. Just not sure how technique will affect marksmanship.

Haha I have no idea. There were no workers there walking the line so he probably could have picked up anything he wanted behind the booths, but I guess it was just easier for him to stand in position and catch the ejections one by one.

Use a couple brass catchers. I have one for my AR and for the pistol I use a small butterfly net with a short handle and attach it to my hand with a Velcro strap. Works ok and beats having to pick it up.

I saw a guy at USI once assemble a stand up brass catcher that he made from PVC tubing and some netting. Worked like a charm, caught every one of his casings.

I wish I'd taken a pic, sorta looked like one of those "pitching, bounce back" dealies you have for your kids, only it stood upright.

Unfortunately, my brass seems to pretty consistently eject high at about 4 o'clock. Not sure I could get one positioned right without it being in the way half the time.

Use a broom

All of the ranges have a broom.

Plus, you can tell the reloaders. They usually have the cleanest lanes of all. The other thing you need to be aware of is that some ranges have a Communist policy of saying that ALL brass, even your own reloaded brass belongs to the range!

One of the things I have found is that when other shooters see you picking up your brass, they will ask you if you want theirs. Usually, most ranges have a 'shag your own' policy. Usually, these shooters do not reload, and are more than happy to have their lanes cleaned by someone else ... to me ... this can be stated by one word ...

I'm still trying to find a brass catcher for my Sig 556 that doesn't cost several hundred dollars. I can catch 1/3-1/2 of it in a regular brass catcher but a lot of it bounces off the frame and then flys several lanes over to never be seen again. This is the cheapest one I've found but it requires a rail system, which I have no plans of adding.

That's nifty but $79.99 + $10 S&H is just crazy overpriced. I'd say that's worth about $30.

I made my own out of 3 bucks worth of pvc and a left over tripod. I originally bought a mesh net from Walmart, but it was too small so I tried my hands at sewing. Works great, especially with my M1garand.
