    Complimentary Background check?

    Is this for real?

I just got this pop up. First time I've seen it. I usually run Adblock but for whatever reason I had it turned off this morning. I can't believe anyone would input info into something like this. I did not click on the link to see where it goes. Seems to be an obvious phishing scam so I hope no one here falls for it.

It's obviously not sponsored by Calguns but appears so with the big red header. There is a disclaimer

The more I think about it... this might be in the wrong forum. If a mod wants to move it to a more appropriate forum please do. I just wanted to post it up quickly and hope no one gets fooled by this scam.

That's fake. Not hard for a website to pull your recently view sites list or see what tabs you have open.

Those background check sites also will not pull criminal records for California residents. I have verified this myself by running several peoples backgrounds who I knew had misdemeanor convictions and I even ran one known felon. All came back clean. Ran them using Intellius and a couple of the other big background check services, same results on them all.

Give home your name, DOB, and SSN and let us know how it works out for you.

I refuse to patronize organizations that advertise in ways I find objectionable, even if it's a legit organization (which that one isn't). Spam, pop up ads, and those flyers they pay some dirtbag $20 to leave on your door/ windshield in particular bother me. I usually call the companies and tell them why they'll never see a dime from me.

If it is free, it is fake 99.9% of the time.
