7-11 showdown yesterday night

Who sends his wife into a 7-11 at 11pm alone to get cash? Even more, you sensed something was up but you continued to sit in your truck?

Which 7-11 was it so we can Google Earth it to see the purported alley and bushy landscape you speak of? Not that I don't believe you, of course.

I sensed something may be up when the dude peeked through the window looking inside the 7-11 right before she was done with the ATM. They walked back around the corner after that and I thought they had left. Then he started peeking his head around the corner when she was about to come out. THAT's when I realized something was up and grabbed the airsoft pistol that was already out as I was fiddling with it on the way to dinner that night.

The 7-11 is on the corner of Winchester Blvd and Budd Ave. The landscape bushy area and alleyway behind it is on the right side of the building. Now F off.

There were a number of things you could have done better leading up to the confrontation as previous posters pointed out. Keep in mind that a vehicle could also be used in a pinch. Practice in GTA.

This was in a usually safe area of Campbell where cops are everywhere. I guess these two guys didn't get the memo. In all seriousness, I learned a few things from the situation as did my wife. No more 7-11 for late night lotto runs or ATM stops on the way home at night. Go out of the way a bit to the real bank ATM we bank with. Go inside with her if I'm with her. Park directly in front of the door if possible. Pack real steel and have it accessible, etc.

It is right off a major street in plain view. I would not expect something like that to happen there. Now up the block near Cadillac drive and Winchester Yes! O hell yes!

When you saw them quickly approaching your wife, you should have stayed in your truck and called 911. After 20 minutes on hold, they would have finally sent an officer to take a report. The officer would have arrived in a timely fashion, maybe an hour or two. What were you thinking?

Brandishing is not always a crime. It is not a crime to protect yourself or your loved ones. If you were in San Francisco, you committed a crime by just possessing an airgun. But, it sure sounds like your actions were justified and the mere site of a defensive weapon stopped a possible robbery, kidnapping, rape, murder or who knows what else? Then again, maybe the mis understood youths were talent scouts and wanted to sign your wife to a multi million dollar modeling contract????

Just FYI it's not illegal to posses an airgun in San Francisco.

I was hanging out in the alley with my buddy the other night by the 7-11. We were waiting for our friend to get off work, she was late so we kept looking in. She waved at us to come inside and when we started walking that way this guy jumped out of his car with a gun. He had been eyeing us for awhile, probably wanted to rob us, but we ran away.

WTF, you carry an unloaded Airsoft? What the hell is that supposed to do? Do you think you have a REAL CCW permit? Yes, you could have been in trouble by getting a REAL CAP in your ash from the bad guys who most likely had REAL GUNS with REAL CAPS!!! Not to mention the Police would see you as "man with a gun" and put more REAL CAPS in your ash. You are, at the very least, retarded! An AirSoft is NOT a REAL gun, but it can get you dead.

Left a Big 5 sporting goods store with a new beretta 92 clone pellet pistol. Went out to dinner afterwards and on the way home we stopped at a 7-11 convenience store. Wife went in to use the ATM inside and as she is walking inside I notice two black males loitering near some bushy landscaped area in an real small alleyway to the side of 7-11. They took an obvious interest in her as she walked in.

They hadn't seen her come from my vehicle and I'm sure they didn't even realize I was a few parking spots away watching them. The two black males peeped inside from the far corner window at her while she was using the ATM.

They walked back around to the side of the building to the bushy alleyway for a few moments and then one of them peeked his head around the corner every 5 seconds or so seemingly waiting for my wife to exit. Nobody was around, real quiet and no customers inside. Around 11pm.

She gets done with the ATM and as she is walking out the door towards my truck I see the two black males come fast around the corner speed walking towards her and I jumped out of the truck right away with the pellet pistol in hand. As soon as they saw me and saw the gun they both turned and booked it back behind the 7-11. My wife had no clue what was happening. She saw me jump out of the truck with the gun in hand staring behind her and she finally looked behind her to catch a quick glimpse of the two guys running. Scared the heck out of her. I felt like chasing them and calling cops but just told her get in the truck and we left to home.

Yes, you could have landed your wife and yourself in a lot of trouble.

Trouble with the bad guys, who could have been bettered arm than you were.

Trouble with law enforcement officers, who, in situations like this, tend to strike that familiar "I'm the only one professional enough" pose.

Then they jam you up for brandishing, etc.

I think this is a case where you are wise not to call the PD. 90% of the time, you would be OK. The DA and the PD would think of it as an act of self defense. Nothing else to do.
The other 10% is where you get the short-end. Some activist gets involved or some liberal DA wants to make an example of you. You end up on some BS charges that may eventually get dismissed or you might end up pleading to a lesser offense because you cannot afford a good lawyer. You were right and you are still covicted.
I am not surprised the losers ran off. I think most self defense uses of a gun result in no shots fired and lots of people not filing a police report. Criminals are mostly cowards. Even if they got a weapon, they not skilled at using it. They know the chances are good that that your gun works and you can hit your target. Even if they think they can out-shoot you, they know that shots fired brings lots of misery on them.
Glad it ended well.

This is the reason most legitimate uses of guns for self defense go unreported. The fact they saw a gun was enough to deter them.

In the future, avoid going to the ATM late at night.
