1: Stop being a petulant fanboy.
2: The rating sucks no matter how you try and spin it.
3: There are plenty of competitions shot from a bench, so by forgetting something so obvious you've pretty much invalidated your opinion as a bunch of nonsense.
4: Because you seem to think shooting from a bench involves less noise than something else(really? The end of the rifle is the same distance from your head...). If I were to make an assumption based on your avatar that your idea of competition seems to involve ipsc, idpa, 3 gun type stuff which has less people shooting in your vicinity in any ipsc, idpa, or 3gun match I've ever seen compared to a packed shooting range or even a competition involving lots of people in close proximity all on a shooting line.

18NRR is crap for ear protection for shooting and is at best fine for an environment without much shooting going on as it would be better than not having any ear protection at all.

not to pricey, 30 nrr and electronic. low pro would be nice, but i am not worried about the bulky ones.

Sorry about the ringing, maybe God is punishing you for shooting too many rounds in one mag, unlike us California folks. Since your in Colorado why don't you buy a silencer (suppressor) and shoot all those rounds with out damaging your hearing.

I use ear plugs 32 nrr
            Ear muffs 33 nrr
That's the highest nrr I have been able to find. When I take a class I use electronic ear muff 26nrr with ear plugs. I find that with the amp turned up I can still hear fairly well.
As far as ringing. As long as you shoot you're being exposed to damaging loud noises even double muffing. It's still does not reduce to non damaging levels

Loud music damaged my ears. Guns haven't because I double up with some mushy silicon ear plugs under my circumaural protection. Very comfortable!
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.
