Yea right. Probably a PSA rifle shipped to Ukraine. Bizarre, I've never seen a Russian soldier with anything other than an AK pattern rifle.

Imagine the crap a Russian soldier would get for carrying an American weapon.

The AK vs AR debate does not exist over there

No, that's why I asked if it might be a Russian soldier. He could also be a pro-Russian militia member from Crimea with his own weapon. I'm fascinated by stories of American designed weapons in use by forces that are not direct allies with U.S. military as well as the possibility of American mercs operating in foreign conflicts.

A few years back, the Russian Defense Minister stated he wanted the Russian Military to dump the AK-74M and adopt a 5.56x45mm rifle, that is better than the M-4 Carbine, as a replacement.

He probably bought it when he was on vacation in Chicago.

Did Putin Confess directly to moving troops to Crimea? All the soldiers there have no flags or any identification, so far people have only assumed they are russian

Could have been one of these:

In a Russian AK manufacturer Molot, who are a subsidiary of AK-74/AK-1xx maker Izhmash and who make the VEPR AK-style rifles, announced at the Moscow ARMS & Hunting ’11 expo that they would be producing an AR-15 style rifle called the HPE-140 (впо-140).The rifle is in a M4 configuration and includes a quad rail, ergonomic pistol grip and muzzle brake. It weighs ~7 lbs.
