Looking for info on this old shotgun

    Hi all,

Posting this for a friend. He inherited some guns when his father died. Some neat stuff, but he doesn't know much about them or their value.

Here is the most interesting one. Anyone have any info on this shotgun?:

For those interested.....Thanks to Russ's post, I googled Fowler and stumbled onto the muzzleloadingforum.com site. Posted the pic there and received a reply.

That is a high end Bavarian shotgun circa 1850s 1860s. Gold Leaf, Horn grip, Probably a show piece for the builder. I wunderlich, The maker, in wu siedel.
Wunsiedel Germany is in northest Bavaria. Definitely a war trophy. Nice piece.

I believe that "rifle" is actually a double barreled shotgun.

Yes, hence the word fowler (for shooting fowl). I have/had no idea what it was, except the makers name was on the barrel and it was obviously a fowling piece and a very nice one at that.

Damascus barrels are typically not rated for the power of todays shot shells and can rupture. If he really wants to shoot it, you ned to source or load somelow pressure shells.

I would also have it x-ray'd. They can rust from the inside out.
