Left hand right eye

So I read a lot about ambidexterity and how developing it as an adult has various neurological advantages and yada yada yada.

First things first I want to shoot with my left hand. Not pistols, my rifles. All manually operated (bolt, lever and pump). But I have a serious problem with my dominant right eye. So far I've been sighting with my normally-ignored ghost(non-dominant) rear sight image, but that means I cannot get a proper cheek weld. I end up being about an inch off of my stock to get it right.

Does anyone have any experience correcting this that doesn't require modifying their weapon? I am still a right-handed shooter so I don't want to make that more uncomfortable, or buy a new gun. The only cross-dominant solutions I have come up with online have been for pistol shooters.

Start practicing by putting the matte scotch tape over the lens of your shooting glasses for your dominant eye. This will blur the view of your dominant eye and your brain will shift the focus to your non-dominant eye. I know some people who have permanently changed their eye dominance this way.

I am the same way. Right handed but left eye dominant. I'll have to try the eye patch trick next time at range. Thanks

An eye patch works too. I caught myself using my left eye a while back and I'm right handed, covered my left eye and the problem went away after some dry fire practice.

You'll shoot better if you do and it's the only way to stop doing it. Otherwise muscle memory kicks in and you'll use your right eye without thinking.

Everyone has varying degrees of dominance in eyes and hands. This is complicated by the fact that some people have different visual acuity in each eye.

What works for me may not work for you. With handguns you should try both hands with each eye and see what works. this is simple. With rifles and shotguns, I would put it on the side of my best eye and train my hand. Your brain is wired for that dominant eye. That is difficult to fight.

I encourage everyone to spend some time shooting with their non-dominant side. It will make you a better shooter and let you see what cross dominance does to you.
