    13 rounds magazines conversion

    Hello,

If i have some 13 round p 226 magazines that are marked L.E use only, is there any parts kits that I can turn these into 10 round magazines?

If I do turn them into 10 round magazines, is it Legal to have even if they are still marked l.e use only?

If they you owned them before the ban then just use them. If you got them after the ban and they are assembled (depending on how they were aquired) I would break them down asap. There are several methods of turning standard cap mags into 10 rounders but if it was me in this situation i would just sell them out of state, or break them down and sell them as parts kits and just buy some 10 rounders. And you can use mags marked l.e. use only, not sure when they started stamping these though.

If you owned them pre 2000 then they are perfectly legal to use in their standard form. "LE use only" does not matter, you can use them completely legally.

        the markings mean nothing
you could have a 10+ rnd mag marked 2008 and it would be legal
you just cant manufacture import sell or loan them out
theres no law against using new production parts to rebuild your rusty worn out magazines
If you didnt own them prior to the ban I suggest not posting that as you would be admitting to a felony

I don't have them, that's why i said IF. Someone want's to sell me a Sig p228. If he sold me the p228, but "Gave" me the magazines in a completely dissasembled state, seperate from the gun sale Would I be ok then? I would not put them back together until I had a parts kit that would let me reassemble them in a 10 round configuration.

Would I be OK in doing this?

I assume getting parts for this would be chaper than buying whole new magazines.

You situation you described is OK. But...I'm not sure if you understand there isn't a parts kit to transform magazines into 10 rounds per se. Like I mentioned earlier if you bought the gun it would probably be easier to just sell the magazine parts and buy some 10 rounders.

To convert them to 10rds, you would need to put something ike a plastic block inside to reduce the capacity inside. This is difficult, unless you do some careful measuring, because if your magazine once assembled still takes 11rds, you have manufactured a hi-cap magazine.

Once assembled, you would have to find a way of permanently attaching floorplate onto the mag body. All this is probably more trouble than it's worth, as 10rd P228 mags are easy enough to find.

I've seen some ten rounders created from 13+ by putting a dimple about 1/8" deep on both sides of the body. This way the follower can not go down further than the dimples.

I'm not enough of a machinist to know how to dimple without messing up the mag body.
