Brass Catcher Ideas for private land:

OK not sure if this is where I am supposed to post this but here we go anyway.

So I will be shooting on some private land this weekend and am trying to think of an easy good way to catch the brass. I am thinking of using some type of tarp or canvas tarp to lay down over the grassy area we normally shoot so the brass lands there then it's easier to pick up/find. I am also wondering if anyone has used or tries say a bed sheet to have brass land on? Large tarps can get expensive, and I have quite a few bed sheets laying around that never get used. I know when they eject they are hot, but does anyone think they will be hot enough to say "burn" through a bed sheet? Thanks for the feedback.

      Harbor freight

      Tarps

Cheap- easy- take up very little space to store them
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

I have a real good one, Take one of those large plastic carry totes, about 30" x 18" x 12" deep.
Tilt the tote up on one end, take a towel that covers the opening of the tote and drape it down and hold it to the top with two clothes pins.
Set the tote to the ejection side of the rifle or pistol so the spent shells hit the towel.
When the rounds it the towel they fall right inside the tote and make clean up a breeze.
I use this with my Mini 14 and it works great.
You can set it up on a shooting bench or on the ground to shoot prone.. No more fetching spent rounds.

Plastic tarps melt, cotton sheets don't. Use the sheets. Get pretty ones with flowers and smurfs....

As said, tarps will melt with anything bigger than .22. Sheet may work but they are hard to keep down when the wind blows.

                I like moving blankets myself.

Just go to Home Depot, get some plastic tubing and some netting (which I bought at Walmart via a mesh laundry bag), and make one. I made one that the rounds run down the tubing, and drop into a fat .50 case. Placement of the catcher is key however. And it may require adjusting placement when you switch guns. Costs about $15-20 (not counting the fat .50).

Mine is similar to this, but modified it somewhat.

But there are tons of designs, just search for "PVC brass catcher".

Tarps get hot and can make you sweaty.
