They're registered. Why wouldn't they have this information?

I agree. Because while DOJ may be able to keep such DROS records filed, general law enforcement is not supposed to be able to access that information so candidly, electronically, etc., save for RAWs. The whole intent was that this general DROS information and purchases would not be revealed when running license plates, Drivers License, etc. on a whim, broadcast over telecom - or so easily as seems to have been the case here.

Does applying for a CCW give them the allowance for that access?

Something is NOT right with that.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

When you say "all the guns" is it fair to assume that this is exclusively handguns?

The state maintains a registry of handguns, so it's not surprising they would have access to their own registry.

Now, if he started rattling off the serial numbers of your 10/22, your shotgun, etc... I'd have to wonder where that info was coming from. That is supposed to be confidential and not even known to the feds unless they actually go to the FFL looking for a specific gun's history.

Go back and non-chalantly ask him for a print out. If possible snap a pucture of his screen. Not that I dont believe you but there is no proof it showed all yor transactions and heresay wont hold up in court. Better to get some proof that LE has access to a registry.

Wow, that would be interesting. Unless it happened this year.

Correct, if you've been out wheeling and dealing in long guns after the first of the year already (we're what, 8-9 weeks into the new year?) then those transactions are going to be in the system as well.

Now you know why they wanted them all in one big slush-pot, available on demand day and night at a moment's notice, with but a few little keystrokes.
