    Defending myself legally?

I live in a gang infested part of Los Angeles, I have encountered two instances where me and my family members have been fired at. Once walking to a corner store and more recently sitting in front of my apartment (my brother ended up hit in the leg). I own several legally purchased firearms but am afraid of being prosecuted as a result of using them, how can I legally defend myself in these types of situations?

    Move away

    or get a CCW permit

Try to carry a knife, they are legal.

Usually you can't defend yourself with a firearm in your situation. LA won't give you a "Carry Permit" and you can't hang outside your apt with a loaded firearm.

Your best options are to run, or move out of the area.

This is a really good question, I hope someone more knowledgeable than me can answer it in detail.

When it comes to outside the home yeah, if you don't have a CCW permit you're out of luck for defending yourself. AFAIK indoors, if you're inside your home and someone breaks in you can defend yourself, but I'm sure there are limitations to that as well.

        Is your brother ok?

If you fight back the gangs will kill you and your family. It's the sad truth about living in gangland.

Yes my brother is ok, we are looking into moving already, I can't deal with this. Thanks for asking.

It just sucks they can go about like this and a law abiding citizen like myself has no way of protecting myself or my family.

The sad part is if you defended yourself with a gun against an aggressor, and it was a good shoot, the perps family might file a civil lawsuit against you, which even if you win might cost you many thousands of dollars. Better to just stay as far away as possible from any bad situation, even if you're armed.

Keep making the police reports. That way if something happens there will be a long paper trail of you trying to handle it in a civil manner.

This will be viewed favorably if something uncivil happens.

I don't wanna end up in any criminal trouble or worse a dead family member. I have a handicapped older brother who plays out front, he doesn't wanna just sit in the house all day. We're moving out of here ASAP.

You are not going to solve this problem with a gun. Even if you kill one of the a holes, there will always be 20 more......

Do whatever you have to do to get out of there.

Sad to say, but the best use of your guns in this instance would probably be their cash value (minus your favorite one).

GTF out of there for your family's sake.
