Buying Guns while on Military Orders

I will be out on military orders next month for a couple months. What are the laws in regards to buying guns in Missouri and bringing them back to California? What, if any do I need to register? I tried the search button but did not find anything specific. Thanks a lot for the help

For the purpose of those in the military, PCS orders grant you residency status in the state where you are stationed. You simply show your orders, CA DL, and military ID card to the FFL.

Residency status does not apply to those with ADT, TCS, etc...

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was wondering about registering them in California after I buy them in Missouri? And if there are any limitations in regards to what I can buy, obviously nothing crazy like full auto or silencers

If you are going 'for a couple months', that does not sound like Permanent Change of Station (PCS). Not PCS, not a resident there, can't buy guns there.

If you are active duty, and you move to CA with guns that are not what CA calls 'assault weapons' or NFA weapons, you need say nothing to CA.

Assuming that your orders are PCS, you'll become a resident of Missouri while serving on those orders. When you return to California, you'll become a "Personal Importer" of any firearms that you bring back with you. Please refer to the DOJ website for additional details.

If you're going on Temporary Active Duty, Active Duty for Training, or some form of orders other than Permanent Change of Station (PCS), then you cannot buy firearms in Missouri.

You're required to register them with the state within 60 days. There is an exemption if you're assigned here on military orders. The "Safe Handgun" roster restrictions do not apply. You can import any weapon you own that is in a California legal configuration. You cannot import large-capacity magazines unless you possessed them in California prior to 2000.

If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.

Even now that we have long gun registration? Handguns already had to be reported.

Not by military, unless they move here and then separate from service. See also the Calguns Foundation Wiki -- http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Mo..._with_firearms
