Sold a Beretta Tomcat last night to a fellow Calgunner and we agreed to do the transfer at Burbanks Gun World. Well I have purchased their overpriced firearms a few times because I want to promote local gun stores and well if it costs a little more than so be it. I mean if you buy online when all is said and done it would cost me about the same so unless I can find it significantly less I buy from Gun World. Well anyway I met the buyer today and was getting ready for the sale when the guy behind the counter told the buyer he needed to get his HSC, he is a parole officer and his card didn't state he was allowed to carry, well the guy said they don't do HSC's for transfers and he couldn't proceed. Well I told him to ask the manager and if it made a difference I would put the money I made selling the gun down on a Kahr P380 I was fondling before the buyer showed up, and in typical Gun World prices it was at least a hundred more than what Turners quoted me for the same firearm. Well the guy went and asked his boss and came back and told us no he wouldn't do it. We ended up going down the street to Agis (not sure of the spelling) and did the transfer there with ZERO BS. Now I have purchased about 5-7 firearms from Gun World and transferred a few others. I did this because I wanted to support a local business but no more. There are better and cheaper places to buy from and even considering the limited supply of HSC cards the stated they had I am a valued customer who would have spent even more money buying a gun there. I know most here have no love for Gun World and now you can add another to the list.

Congratulations on finding a good retailer.

You mean Gun World wouldn't let the guy take an HSC test?Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. I've certainly been called that more than once - I've even seen Kes get called that. I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment

Why link it to a purchase? That sounds ridiculous.Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. What they lack in customer service, they make up for with inventory. Pick your poison.
By the way, I took the HSC test without purchasing a firearm. Of course, not at GW.Comment
-
True but most places can order stuff not on hand and at prices cheaper than GW has ...... Honestly the only reason I would go back is to check out a firearm I plan on getting elsewhere.... not what I like to do but considering GW the only way to go.John P. Hermesmeyer

because HSC cards aren't always stocked to excess. Blank cards cost the instructor $15 each, must be bought in blocks of 10, and can take weeks to get replacements when they run out.
So, many dealers aren't willing to "waste" an HSC card on a customer who isn't there to buy a handgun from them. why risk only making $10 on an HSC for someone that needs one for a PPT, for an intrafamily transfer, or just to have one because the old one expired, and potentially run out of cards, OR save those HSC cards for someone that might be buying a $1500 handgun and make a couple hundred of profit off that same HSC card?Jack

I've heard from other Gun Stores that they can't get the CDOJ form and when they do finally get them, they have to dole them out to customers.
That's the problem.
Your buyer should have handled this long before. I always ask buyers if they have the required documents before any PPT meeting. Especially new members with zero itrader ratings.May the Bridges I burn light the way.

Ah, Gun World in Burbank. I haven't set foot in that place in a long time, almost 5 years ago. They didn't want to give me a copy of my DROS paperwork when I requested it on my gun pickup day and that's enough not give my business to them anymore. Didn't they lose their FFL a few years ago? They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
