    Tinnitus - Ringing in ears

I've seen a number of posts about suffering from tinnitus and thought I would offer this as information. I work as a translator and recently had a job about a new therapy for tinnitus. Basically it works by taking music and filtering out the frequency of the patient's tinnitus pitch, so your therapy is simply listening to your favorite music. The unique thing about this therapy is that, unlike traditional treatments, it can permanently reduce the volume of the perceived ringing in the ears. Anyone who is interested can simply google TMNMT to learn more about it. This therapy is offered by a number of companies and is coordinated with your ENT doctor/audiologist. Anyway, I thought maybe some of you old shooters might be interested or maybe you guys no someone who doesn't shoot but has tinnitus and is looking for relief.

I have it pretty bad...somedays worse than others...always at night I use white noise apps or music to drown it out. I don't blame guns...just many years of motorcycles, drums, loud stereos, concerts, power tools...etc...normal life stuff.

It can come from anything and I hope no one is blaming the gun (though I doubt anyone on here would). The thing about tinnitus, as you probably know, is that it doesn't take place in the ear, but in the brain. It is caused by hyperactivity in the brain's nerves and causes them to create a false sensation of a perceived sound. Drowning it out is just putting a patch over the problem, and if your white noise contains the frequency that is the actual cause of your tinnitus, you may even be making it worse.

Expensive is relative, of course. I heard about it doing a job for tinnitracks.com (not sure if their website is in English yet). My understanding is that it is not free, but not $1000s, either. They are not the only ones out there. I am no expert on health insurance - it may be something to monitor and that may become covered for those who cannot afford it.

Constant buzzing in both ears. Combination of no hearing protection at work (Heavy construction) and too many rock concerts.

it can also be caused by high blood pressure, usually it is also associated with a headache as well but not always.
