Dueling Tree

No, there is nothing formal for "duelling tree matches." But they are damn fun to have with friends. My Dad and I have a pair of them that are only suitable for .22LR.
We set them up anywhere from 12-20 yards away about 4 yards spacing between the two of them, start with them half and half on each, goal is to end up with the most flipped in your favor between the two of them. We usually just go with one mag at a time so we don't worry about sweeping each other with sometimes troubling reloads with a 22 pistol. Probably the most fun you can have.
Much more fun than just one because you have to shift your aim back and forth significantly, whereas just one you go up and down a degree or two.Originally posted by kcbrownI'm most famous for my positive mental attitude.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I had some internet issues for a few weeks. That's too bad that there aren't formal matches :/
And thanks, I'll check out Big John's Ironworks. I read that some members here had a lot of problems with him lately.Comment

With Big John's I used Patience.
My dueling tree was worth it. Your experience may vary.
And when I use the tree or my boys do, I limit the rounds to 12 or 20 because only hits count. Also because I'm supplying ammo
As they and I have gotten better we just move it back another 5 yards.Spreading the WORD according to COLT. and Smith, Wesson, Ruger, HK, Sig, High Standard, Browning

If we're talking about the same thing, I've shot pistol matches with dueling trees. SSA Steel Madness (Raahauge's) and Deadwood Boys/X3 (Piru) matches include them in their course of fire. For X3, sometimes they pistols are used, others, rifles at a distance of around 75 yds.
Dueling trees and plate racks are my favorite. I hate spinners.

Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison

I helped run two man vs. man night matches for Steel Madness at Raahauges. We actually used plate racks for each shooter and a double pepper popper as a stop plate. We had a race track Christmas tree with hand buttons. Each shooter had a hand control. When both shooters were holding the buttons down with their strong hand, the tree would light up and head towards green. On green, both shooters dropped the buttons and drew from a holster. There were 6 plates on the rack to shoot and then the stop plate on the popper. The shooter who got all 6 plates and had their popper on the bottom of the pile, won.
A similar thing could be run with dueling trees. The dueling trees were fun to shoot in the steel madness competitions. I don't know of any man vs. man shoots that are still going on. Most competitions are one person at a time, against a timer. There is much more pressure when you have another person shooting next to you, vs. just going up against a clock. You have to pay attention to your targets and ignore the other shooter.
I used to do steel madness all the time with a pistol and now I do 3 gun competitions. They are very fun, but only one person shoots at a time. OP, if you haven't done any competitions, give it a try. You could even suggest a stage with two people shooting a dueling tree at the same time. I have participated in stages that were relay style with 3 shooters. It was pretty fun.He who dies with the most tools/toys wins

Yeah, same thing. As above post pointed out, clubs can do matches with true duelling, but you won't ever find any sanctioned competitions that are going to have 2 people shooting in the same course at once.If we're talking about the same thing, I've shot pistol matches with dueling trees. I've wanted one for a while, seems like a lot of fun and can mix up shooting trips that get a little boring after a while for some.Originally posted by ar15barrelsSo you are throwing out 95% of reality to select the 5% of reality where you are actually right?

I've also been wanting a dueling tree for quite some time but the good ones are pricey. If anyone knows of a quality setup for a good deal let us know! The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)"Comment
