Yet another potential move back to CA thread

    Hi all,

Long time lurker and first time poster. I have read many of the resources and threads here on coming into CA, and it has been a great deal of assistance in clarifying, but I still have a few questions, and want to make sure that I have understood enough to be able to make a decision. It looks like we may have the "opportunity" to move back to CA from CO in a few months. Among the variables I need to consider for this potential move is what to do about my collection of firearms.

I think that I have an idea, thanks to this site, what to do with the CAI Tantal (put on a bullet button, pin the brake, weld the folder open, and chuck all the magazines) and the M&M M10 (chucks mags and add bullet button). Buy compliant 10 round or less mags when I get to CA..

I have some other concerns with the rest of my firearms. You see, when I left CA a few years ago I bought a couple of things that I could not have purchased in CA, specifically because I could. I have a PPS 43 semi-auto "pistol". Being a pistol, if I get rid of the offending mags I should be good, right? Centerfire systems sells 10 round mags for this one.

I also have a Suomi M31 semi-auto. It only takes large capacity mags and drums, but if I have someone cut down the mags to 10 rounds then I should be OK given no other evil features I think.

Beyond that I have a number of old bolt actions that were DROSed before I moved, so CA should already have a record of them. Do I need to do anything with these when I get back, or is that good enough?

Of course unless I am missing something, the CAI Uzi carbine would not be coming back under any circumstances, being named specifically.

I also have a couple of rifles that I bought in CA several years prior to there being a DROS. I suppose I have to register those even though I have had them for more than 25 years.

Finally, I need to register everything that is not already DROSed as soon as I get back. I'm fairly certain that I don't need to register black powder or antique firearms. Is that correct? I have a model 1887 Winchester made in 1888 based on the serial number.

As complicated as things have gotten there, I must be missing something. I've read until I'm fairly confused on the topic. Am I for the most part on base with the assumptions above? Any input is appreciated.

The other alternative would be to store the california-unfriendly firearms in NV or AZ and visit them occassionally. If that makes more sense (for instance I will not be without the Tantal, love that thing) then where do people store firearms out of state?

Thanks in advance for your vastly superior understanding of all of this. Up until I left CA a few years ago I had not purchased anything since about 2003. It has changed a lot.
