Won a box of 250 cartridges!
Went to the range this weekend at the LA Gun Club with my bro-in-law. We were there as a relatively newbies myself (6mo actively shooting) and bro-in-law first time out with his new AR15 bare bones along with my Sig Navy MK25. We were there pumped up getting our rounds in trading arms and having a go at them. We noticed that our neighbors also had a 9mm Glock, two AR15's of which one was fully stocked and menacing with laser, scope n' all and the other AR was also a bare bones.
Cutting to the chase I was nailing my targets from different distances with my Navy while my bro-in-law was getting adjusted to using only the stock sights. While I was getting my rounds in our neighbor was talking to my bro-in-law and somehow me hitting my targets prompted them to suggest a friendly wager. So the neighbor said nice shooting how would you like to end the day with a friendly wager, adrenaline was already pumping I said how so. He indicated that it would be simple who ever hit the bulls-eye or came the closest would win, runner up would cough up a box of ammo. Not knowing what I got my self into I agreed, in fact the neighbor said my gun against yours meaning my Sig Navy vs his stocked AR15 he said he would give me a distance edge by giving me midway and he to the furthest it can go. In fact I'll bet my box of 250 rounds vs your 50 round he told me. (Both he and I had multiple round boxes 50-250)
Not one to resist and nothing much to lose I said your on except for two things. He asked what's that. I said you've got to use the AR15 bare bones with just the stock sights, just like my bro-in-law and for the heck of it I'll take my distance to the very end as well. At this point we were both looking at each other with HUGE smiles. We can make it a 50 round box if you want I said. The neighbor was fine keeping the wager exactly the same at 250/50.
So there we were with a coin flip to determine who went first. Neighbor won the coin toss. He said you shoot first. So I took a deep breath picked up my pistol -"Mind over matter, if you don't mind then it doesn't matter" and without hesitation I walked up took my stance and promptly fired my first shot and had to glance to just to see where I was at? And just as I had thought it happened yup, knocked out the the bulls-eye on the first shot could see it a mile away, (Oh Glorious is thou day)
I once a again took my stance and proceeded to unload my magazine with confidence or no care in the world. When It was all said and done 3 direct hits and the rest clustered in proximity. My gun had never looked so precious to me before, okay yes it had. Next up -Neighbor with the AR15 bare bones. He looked at me as if to say "Bastard" he took a few moments to adjust his stance and getting comfortable with the sights. He took about 3 shots and couldn't see anything in terms if he had hit anything, honestly neither could I! He proceeded to take aim but this time on the table rest and fired away until his magazine was empty. He pulled back the poster and unbelievably he hit everything but the target. One good handshake and it was all over he quickly delivered on his box of 250 round ammo and everyone began to laugh hysterically.
Scouts honor- I never shot at that furthest distance at the range EVER, thinking that handguns were really only for short distances I dedicated all my time at the mid range distance little bit more little bit less. Now I know that I can and should practice at all distances.
I guess me being the first sniper with a pistol is not out of the question.
