Gun safe for handgun and long-guns?

I have a Stack-On model GSD-323 that will hold 23 longuns and it has a seperate lockable area inside it for handguns, jewlry, etc...

It is a heavy duty safe weighs ~500lbs, not the thin sheetmetal ones.

I am wondering if this satisfies the requirements for taking posession of my handgun from my FFL.

I checked the roster of approved safety devices on CA DOJ website and it is listed there.

Am I good to go or do I have to buy a trigger lock?

From what I understand there is no safe exemption for handguns any more. (federal Law).

Rather say the BATF has not issued a reg that includes safes.

In the meanwhile, plan to buy a lock.

If an extra $6-$10 bugs you: since the law does not say you have to keep the lock or use the lock, on your way to pick up your handgun
      • stop at a different gun store,
      • buy a trigger lock,
      • take it and the receipt to the gun store where
      • you show the lock and receipt to the dealer,
      • pick up your gun,
      • go by the first place and
      • return the lock.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

        Problem solved.

I did this about a month ago. Went to Big 5, bought the lock and took lock/receipt to FFL, then went back to Big 5 on my way home and got a refund.
