    Stack-On Gun cabinet mod

I didn't know where to post this, so I'm posting here. If it belongs somewhere else, can a moderator please move it.

    On with the mod...

Like a lot of people, I own one of these stack on gun cabinets (I think mine was the 10 gun version), but wanted a way to store handguns in there, too. I find the shelf to be rather small and I don't like storing handguns up there, so I decided to come up another way.

This is what I came up with....

And this is why it works:

All you need is a "mending plate" (found a painted one on Amazon after I did this mod) (here) and an inexpensive holster (here) ...add a few self tapping screws and you're all set.

You could fit 4 handguns up the length of the door this way, but I opted for only 3 so there is more room between guns and it's easier to get them in and out of the holsters (or unclip the holster).

I hope this helps someone out there!

Nice job and thanks for sharing a cheap mod. I have been looking for something like this. It always seamed like a wasted space. the double wall on the door has to help

i am really liking this and want to try it out.
      1. do you have a pic of the other side of the door.
      2. the only thing I would do different is maybe mount it at an angle. It would take up less space and you can pull the pistol easier

Be careful nothing can get near the locking arms or cam.
Even better would be to cover all of it on the inside of the door.
One little thing falls against the works and you will be cutting that box apart.
Ask me how I know good thing I only use those for ammo storage.

I thought the same thing about angling the bars but didn't want to have my guns sliding around in there.

I have nothing contacting the inner workings of the lock/latch but enclosing that section of the door would be cool.

I don't have a pic of the outside of the door, but it looks normal. The screws go through the parts of the door that are double walled so nothing sticks out.

I know your mod makes grabbing the gun maybe a little easier, but would not going with something like this be more practical since you do not have to make it permanent? If we're talking strictly for storage purposes, I can get several more of these in my cabinet and it has served my purpose well -

Made by G.P.S. and sold at Turner's. It's a magnetic holster that will hold a full size gun and one magazine. My Buck Mark on the bottom weighs 34oz unloaded and it has no problem keeping it firmly in place.

Those are pretty cool. Had I known these existed, I wouldn't have gone and made holes in my cabinet lol. How much do those go for?

I don't remember what they exactly sold for, but it wasn't more than $20 each.

Same gun, except different timing lol. By the time I bought mine, it had become the IWI baby desert eagle, imported by magnum research. Same exact gun though.

I had a burst of inspiration like you guys did. Bought a couple of wall mount magnetic kitchen tool holders. Mounted them on the door. Now all my metal mags are nice and organized and easily found.
