    Safe Installer San Francisco

I picked up one of those Costco specials and despite thinking I had 6 weeks to figure out delivery, I just got a call today and they are delivering this Friday. Normally I'd be happy to get my delivery early but not necessarily in this case.

I'm looking for a safe installer to help me move the 500lb beast from the curb in my building to my first floor unit, arrange it in a closet, and bolt it down to a concrete floor. Any suggestions?

I also wouldn't mind some encouragement that I could possibly do this on my own.

If this is the bighorn 19 it's closer to 400 lb than 500. I've moved mine several times with a heavy duty solid wheel hand truck and two friends. You can buy furniture sliders to get it in the closet like a pro on amazon.

You'll have to figure out how many stairs you have and how good of friends you have. You can rent the hammer drill and bit from the Depot for $35 and anchors there as well for $5 a pop.

Put the door side against the dolly as it's the heavy side.

You'll need at least ONE GOOD friend...

Much appreciated. I have decided to DIY and hopefully I will be able to get it done with a buddy and his dolly rated at 600lbs. If not I suppose I will have to sleep with it out on the street Friday night.

osis32, I am in North Beach and wouldn't mind a backup set of hands to swing by if the two of us can't manage. OK if I PM you if needed?

I was hesitant to bolt mine to the floor myself, however once I got a hammer drill (I think its called) I quickly was able to secure all four corners

A rotor hammer and some half inch wedge anchors will do you great. I'm by City College as well. If you're near there I'm down to help you out. Don't have much time to go much out of my way otherwise.

Just call the freight delivery company. They'll move it inside and do the install for a fee. Probably cheaper than calling a safe installer out.

Costco delivery is curbside only. I had two buddies and a nice dolly to help and with some muscling and only a few precarious moments, the safe is in and positioned. I didn't get any dehumidifying equipment yet so I forgot to run power through the pre-drilled holes in back. I may need to invite a friend over to help with that. I'll bolt the thing down after the dehumidifying parts are installed.

Three average sized guys were able to get the safe unpacked and in to a ground-floor apartment without damaging property or bodies.

The safe itself is just what I needed. The size (20"x28"x60" fits perfectly in my utility closet and the fit and finish of the thing are satisfactory. I may want to get a vinyl cover or something that looks like a filing cabinet over it because it screams SAFE.

One gripe with the friendly delivery guy was I wanted to inspect the safe and get it inside ASAP. He kept chatting and trying to give me advice long enough that more than a few people walked by inquiring what I was protecting that required such a large piece of hardware. My buddy said I had the Hope diamond and I explained that I have a huge passport.
