    magazine count

Just curious as to how many mags anyone has per handgun or rifle? My general rule of thumb is minimum 6. I have a Leo background so I would carry 4 on my belt and one in firearm. Spare in my pocket. And 4 more in my war bag. Id like to know if anyone out there does the same. I'm no longer LEO but I've kept to my principles. Thanks

For range toys, I like to have 3 minimum. For anything used seriously, at least 6. While working, I used to catch the occasional comment for carrying a S&W 3906 with a quad-pack of spare mags. Nowadays when carrying a semi-auto, one spare mag will usually do, with revolvers at least one speed loader or if space is at a premium, a speed strip.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

It depends. I only have three mags for the 22's but I have more than enough mags for my HD gun.

          Approx. 10 per Glock
          Approx. 8 ETMs per 1911
          Usually 2 speed-loaders per revolver
Approx. 10 PMAGs per AR on top of a few dozen steel FN and HK mags

I too wouldn't like <6 mags per firearm.

Nice. I remember the saying, "one is none. Two is one". everytime I would transport prisoners from our jail to IRC, other officers there would just eyeball eachothers belt gear, wondering why all the mag pouches or triple cuffs.

What about stripper clips? I was thinking about ordering 100pc 762x39 clips but I dont think I would order 100pc mags for my G35.

Well if Larry Vickers says 5 is enough then that it is.

10 per firearm. 5 of them loaded at all times for my glock and AR and one magazine loaded in each firearm.

                      4 for each handgun.

3 is the most I've needed for any training class so I have an extra.

2 is all I carry with me.

4 each is plenty for home.

Hmm, three of my guns have tube magazines, one takes stripper clips (I have 12 of those, keep them loaded and in ammo pouches) one takes detachable magazines, I have one and four more on backorder (been on backorder a while...) and another coming in with two, though I intend to convert it to a different style and buy quite a few. At least five. Most likely more.
So I was driving home from the range and I noticed that the scent of warm steel, burnt gunpowder and lukewarm coffee combined and smelled oddly of... Peanut butter?! Man, the Hoppe's is going to my head.

For any pistol I'd use for "serious social purposes" I consider 7 magazines the minimum: three to keep loaded, three to alternate with the first three, and one as a complete parts source.

For rifles, it's 11 mags: five loaded, five as alternates, one for parts.

For any firearm that won't likely be used for self defense I try to have at least three magazines as I never want to only have one magazine for any given firearm and if I have two and lose or damage one, I'm back to one.
