Remember this from a few years ago .. seems to me that it points to outdated TTPs. Even the more nimble USMC is a bureaucracy and it takes time to change things.
BTW, you should subscribe to his YT channel (RetreatHell), if you are remotely interested in training.

Speed reloads are allowed in IDPA if your magazine is empty. In such cases the slide should be locked open. If you're doing a tactical reload before your magazine is dry, you must retain it.

Great post. Thanks for sharing the article.

Indeed ... proper instruction followed by good training is everything!

It's not that they aren't allowed, you are just penalized for doing it. I have seen plenty of folks use IDPA, USPSA, or 3 gun matches to implement their training into a different environment.

If you want to shoot the match and mag change according to your training, tell the RO before hand and take the penalties. If you want to win the match, play by the rules. It would still be fun either way!

I know that for me personally, once I read that story, I started doing all my loading and reloading keeping the gun up in my workspace, and never looking down at it. Granted, it's no IDPA match I'm at, just a range, but every repetition helps.
