Who's to say that the UK's gun laws are causally related to their low number of homicides? -
The UK had a low rate of firearm homicide even before gun bans. It is a less violent society than the USA and always has been (though far more violent than, say, Germany).
Different countries are . . . different.
Socially and historically, the US has more in common with other Western Hemisphere countries than it does with any European country. Compare and contrast homicide rates in Latin America and the US as well as gun laws.
What do I win?Originally posted by cockedandglockedGetting called a DOJ shill has become a rite of passage around here. I've certainly been called that more than once - I've even seen Kes get called that. I haven't seen Red-O get called that yet, which is very suspicious to me, and means he's probably a DOJ shill.Comment

Violence isn't just measured by murders. Compare a composite of violent crimes. The UK had a low rate of firearm homicide even before gun bans. It is a less violent society than the USA and always has been (though far more violent than, say, Germany).

Raw numbers, last time I looked was around 4x higher. You have to remember they have a much less forgiving attitude towards assault then we do, so it's still not a 100% fair comparison.
Fwiw op, I think your question is a bit too loaded to make this a real exercise of developing arguments/counter arguments.

I guess I'm in the weird camp where I would rather be beaten up for my wallet four times than shot and killed for it once.Violence isn't just measured by murders. Compare a composite of violent crimes.

Here's a YouTube video that compares crime rates, including the USA vs UK.

How is it even relevant to compare the US to the UK? They are completely different countries with markedly different histories. Here's a YouTube video that compares crime rates, including the USA vs UK.
