    I'm Confused! AR preban mag?

    Hey guys,
    I have a OLL AR15 with a prince 50 installed.
If I had old preban 30 round mags.

Can I use them in my OLL?
Would I need a bullet button so I could change the 30 rounders?

    Thanks for the help.

For the mags to be pre-ban they must have been in California and owned by you before year 2000.

You can use them in your OLL provided you have no evil features and no magazine lock.

Since when did a mag lock become an evil feature?

You can still use 30 rounders in a featureless build with a mag lock, sure who the hell would want to, but you CAN.

So 30 rounders are no good to me because a featureless AR is like having a woman you cant touch!

You can not use a large capacity magazine with a semiautomatic centerfire rifle with a feature.

12276.1. (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall
also mean any of the following:
                  (1) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to
accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
                  (A) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action
                  of the weapon.
                  (B) A thumbhole stock.
                  (C) A folding or telescoping stock.
                  (D) A grenade launcher or flare launcher.
                  (E) A flash suppressor.
                  (F) A forward pistol grip.
                  (2) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has a fixed magazine
with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.

                  (3) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length
                  of less than 30 inches.

Thanks for giving out felony advice. DO NOT HAVE A FIXED MAGAZINE CENTERFIRE RIFLE WITH A CAPACITY OVER 10 ROUNDS! No, no, no, no. Illegal.

Gene, posted the relevant PC section.

If you want to utilize your large capacity magazines, then you will need to use a featureless build. Everyone should have at least one featureless and one fixed mgagazine build!

NOOOOOO! You would create an AW.

Didn't we just go over this yesterday?

Above (Wes & Gene - whoops & ohsmily now, too --- all the all-stars (less Bill) have shown up now!) is, of course, correct.

A detachable mag (one that operates without tools) rifle is the only kind that can use large capacity mags.

Fixed mag builds (Bullet Button, Prince50, Raddlock) can never exceed 10rds in capacity, as it would be an assault weapon.

There are 5 different ways for a rifle to be an assault weapon:
                          1.) use a specifically banned Make/Model receiver
2.) Combining features (centerfire + detachable mag + any banned feature)
3.) Overall length <30" (with stock collapsed)
4.) Fixed magazine with >10rd capacity
                          5.) capable of chambering 50BMG

Any one of those would be an assault weapon.

Some day I would like to build a rifle that violates all 5 (and have it out of state, of course ) Yes, a <26" OAL 50BMG with 20rd fixed magazine on a Colt lower (hacked up) is a ridiculous abomination, but wth...
