It might be of interest to note that SWITZERLAND is not shown on this list because it has NO MURDER OCCURRENCE!

However, SWITZERLAND'S law requires that EVERYONE:
    1. Own a gun.
    2. Maintain Marksman qualifications .... regularly .
Did you learn anything from this??
I think the message is - loud and clear - that gun bans and restrictions
    DO NOT work!

There is a problem with using Switzerland as an example though. Their complete lack of diversity in demographics. Since Switzerland is so small, their community is very small too. They are all "Swiss". Look at the US now. We have African American, Asian, Irish, Mexican, etc etc. There is such diversity in demographics, values and ideaology on everything that violence will occur. I do understand what you're saying about the Swiss though. It's still a bit of an apples to oranges comparison.
Dear ISIS, Texas is not known for their gun free zones.

I know for a fact Guns are not banned in South Africa. You need to obtain a license to own a gun and it needs to be renewed every 5 years. So gun laws are a lot more strict and it's similar to the way we regulate cars. Then just randomly I looked up Greenland and they to allow gun ownership with licensing. I found a thread on a forum on Gun Broker titled I Love Gun Laws Here In Greenland where someone from Greenland was talking about how great it is because you can open carry and no one will call the police. So anyways you may want to run through that list to make sure it's accurate.

You brought up Switzerland. The law does not require everyone own a firearm, this is a myth. Able bodied men from age 19 are required to go through military training and are issued their weapon and equipment which can be kept at their home or at military armory. Since they are such a small country this is how they run their defense forces. As far as civilians owning firearms a license is required for handguns and the license is only valid for several months and only good for purchasing one firearm. Certain rifles for hunting do not require a license. Firearms are also registered with the government.

Anyways just comparing countries murder rates and gun laws is not a good way to determine the effectiveness of gun laws. I could also point to Japan who has en extremely low murder rate and they have a gun ban. Gun murders are also non existent in Japan. Also you could compare the Americas murder rate to the richest industrialized nations like in Europe; we have a much higher murder rate and gun death rate than they do and they have much stricter gun laws than we do.

But I think the lesson here still remains that gun bans aren't going to solve all our problems. All countries are different with different problems. Some countries have very low standards of living extremely high poverty rates which leads to crime. I noticed Sudan was on the list. Well they're in the middle of a civil war, they have very weak government, high poverty rates, poor economy and so on.

Just to be clear here I am not advocating strict gun laws and gun bans. I do believe common sense gun laws like background checks have their place in a civilized society but they need to be comprehensive a d not put in place by knee jerk reactions.

This list gets posted all the time and there are too many inaccuracies and failures of context to make it useful in any way.

Are you saying minorities can't control themselves? I think that's a tad racist

In Guatemala barber shops have armed (12ga shotgun carrying) guards so is this list totally accurate? As far as my experience, Guatemala has a pretty robust right to bear arms (in practice) even if it isn't codified. I believe this stems from the politically motivated mass murders they suffered after gun confiscations of the past.
