    Long Gun trasnsport near schools?

I live right next door to a grade school.
I understand that my long guns (and hand guns) must be in locked cases when transporting them within 1000ft of a school, which for me means any time I leave home with them.
Question: if I render them inoperable by removing the bolt or barrel and locking them (bolt or barrel) in a case, can I transport the bolt-less or barrel-less long guns in unlocked cases as a means of staying within the 1000ft law?
My cases are mostly cheapos and have only a single zipper tab so nothing to put a padlock on.
Thanks for any info or suggestions on my dilema.
I don't want to spend $$ on several more cases if I don't need to.
    Thanks

No. Needing to be in a locked case, means they need to be in a locked case. There is no exemption for them being disassembled. Specifically it's the serialized receiver(or other part, depending on the firearm in question, since it's not always a lower, or even upper) that needs to be locked.

For example, removing the bolt from an AR-15 accomplishes nothing. Locking the upper for an AR-15 in a case accomplishes nothing. I would need to lock the lower receiver in a case.
