Top 10 Greatest Firearms in History

While I am not a gun owner, I still find it interesting that guns remain today the most common weapon used by military and civilians alike. During their

Glock's are chambered in .40 sig? G98/K98's have 8 round magazines.... and all those listed are relavitely modern firearms.

Another pointless list written by a someone that knows nothing about firearms... Im surprised the Five-Seven, and Deagle didnt make the cut.

Top 10 Greatest Firearms in History

Bad list is bad. Guy says in the first paragraph hes not even a gun owner. Lol

I would argue that any .38 snub was more historic than a smith and wesson .44

And to have the 1911 as number one and not even include the M16 on the list is pure silliness. From my limited understanding of war, the RIFLE is your PRIMARY weapon, and your sidearm is rarely even used

            That list sucks.

Here is my list. I picked these guns because they have pushed firearms research and development to the limits. With out these guns we would still be fighting wars with swords and spears.

            # 10 Should be the very first hand cannon.

            # 9 English Brown Bess Flintlock musket. One of the first and best mass produced Infantry Weapons.

            # 8 English P-1853 Enfield Musket. First rifled percussion Infantry Weapon.

            # 7 1860 Henry rifle. First practical cartridge repeating rifle.

            # 6 French Lebel Model 1886 rifle. First Rifle to use Smokeless powder and smaller faster bullets.

            # 5 German Gew. 1898 Mauser rifle. This one is obvious.

            # 4 Maxim gun. First Machine Gun.

            # 3 Colt 1911 45 pistol. All modern pistols designs still have the same basic shape and operation as the 1911.

            # 2 STG 44. Hitlers "Assault Weapon" was the first to use sub-caliber rounds and higher capacity magazines. It set the standard of what modern battle rifles would need to look like.

            # 1 M-16 and the AK-47. The yen and yang of firearms. The Good guy and bad guy guns. Alpha and Omega. Both are so Iconic that they cannot be separated from the wars of the last 50 years and will be fighting on for the next 100.

That list is definitely better. Well to be honest I just took a quick scroll of the linked list after I read the first sentence.

I skipped the link and question my own involvement in a thread started with that first statement.
                Silly person.

Woah, you are not a gun owner? Strange.

Anyways, it needs to be broken down along handgun vs. rifle lines IMHO.

I will do rifles (small arms) only:

                  10. Winchester Model 94

                  09. Mini-14/Mini-30

                  07. CETME

                  06. StG 44

                  05. AR-18

                  04. AK-47/AK-74

                  03. FN/FAL

                  02. M1 Carbine

At the bottom the writer mentions the right to bear arms. And mentions iraq as a dearmed country. That is wrong. Last i remember the general populace could have 1 ak47 for home defense purposes.

I didn't write this article, I just posted it!

FYI - I am the poster; not the writer! The writer is not a gun owner . . .
