    Pellet Pistol for target practice

A former LEO I know uses a pellet pistol of some kind for target practice, to keep skills up etc. He can do this at home on rural property. I assume he also gets range time in with his other handguns. I have never seen his pellet gun so don't not know what kind it is.
If this is an effective way to improve shooting skills, it would be also an inexpensive way to do so. I understand you should practice with your carry gun as well, but would practice with a pellet pistol be useful as well?

Any quality practice helps. Rimfires, pellet guns, airsoft and even just dry firing are all good ways to practice.

      Yes it helps.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I couldn't find the article directly but here is a link to a Airsoft forum where someone posted the story. Its about a Japanese kid named Tatsuya Sakai who won the Real Steel Challenge and trained with Airsoft pistols in Japan.

I have graduated from a poor to fair/medium shooter with the use of an Air rifle and CO2 revolver.

I bought a daisy 852 from the CMP for 114 + shipping , this is teh best value around.

For my revolver I wanted something with a realistic double action trigger and settled on this:

We've got a great price on the Smith & Wesson 586, 4-inch Barrel. Get a great price and expert advice at Pyramyd for your next outdoor adventure!

I also bought a pellet trap and shoot a 8.5 yard line diagonally in my garage, both guns are quiet enough that close by neighbors won't be bothered
          WTB Irish firearms:
old SxS shotguns, Enfields (Irish contract or FF marked), RIC marked carbines or revolvers, odd ball flintlocks.

VZ58 PARTS F/S - I've got everything except magazine parts

Exactly! Any training is better than no training. If you are going through the motions building muscle memory, I would suggest taking it a step further and using a Red Gun. I use one all the time for drawing and presentation training.

I use a Co2 bb pistol for practice. A few years ago, my neighbor had a rat problem and the rats would eat the bird seed in my back yard. I killed 16 rats that summer with a Daisy bb pistol. The one I have now shoots at 410 fps.
But now there aren't as many rats to shoot at, so I use a picture of Bill Maher.

The good thing is that there are pellet guns that are replicas of many of the popular pistols out there.

I bought a Feinwerkbau 300s air rifle in the early 80's and practiced with it. This air rifle used to be used in Olympic competitions, and is very accurate. It taught me how important it is to follow through, the pellet moves much slower through the barrel and if you are not practicing follow through, you will not get a good score.
