Gun Sale Gone Sour

Guys just wondering what you think...a fellow Calguns member put a rifle up for sale in the classifieds. Last Friday we both agreed that I would buy his rifle for his full asking price, and meet at an agreed upon gun shop to do a PPT. He wasn't available the first weekend, but said he would send a PM during the following week to meet up. We later agreed upon a time and date to meet up that next week. I also received other PM's throughout the week stating everything that he would include in the rifle purchase. Everything sounded good at that time, three days prior to meeting. I come home from work today to find a PM stating: sorry, I decided not to sell the rifle. Keep in mind, that we were supposed to do a PPT the very next morning, at 11 a.m. I fully understand that no money was ever exchanged at this point, but a man's word was. This just doesn't sit very well with me. What do you think?

I think that it's okay. If you met, and then he decided not to sell then and there, that would be okay too. The only thing I'd complain about is someone not showing up.

it sucks, but yeah at least you didnt drive out and he "sort of" gave you notice he changed his mind

Think he got a better offer, that's what I think. That, and he has no honor. You don't just change your mind once a deal is made. Poor form!

There are always two sides to every story. Maybe he sold it to someone else, maybe he didn't like you. Maybe he was actually honest, who knows. FWIW, I'm not taking anyones side. Have you ever sold anything on here? I've had a bunch of ammo at good prices, most people simply flake. One guy called & changed his mind 3 different times, then I told him don't contact me again.

I respect everyones opinion, that's what I asks you for.
I do think much like bruss01 on the subject. but no one"s answer is wrong.
I haven't sold anything here but have purchased many other things from fellow cagunners without a problem.
Had my hopes up all week to purchase this rifle and set it up for my son.
I guess im just venting.

Ive been buying here and have had pretty good experiences. A couple of problems with the guns but not deal breakers.
I think you have a legit gripe. Nothing to do about it but he should have kept his word if he committed to selling it to you. If he got more $ elsewhere then not having to deal with someone with an integrity problem is a plus.
I'm getting ready to sell some pistols off here and hope the experiences I've had hold true.

I feel your pain OP but like others have said, unfortunately it happens. I hate when it happens because sometimes I let other deals go by because i think I have one in the bag. I get really pissed for a few seconds, then I tell myself I probably don't want to purchase something from a person that cant keep to there word anyway, especially a firearm. Life goes on.

happened to me. such is life. just gotta suck it up and move on. usually something else comes along as good or better. just keep your eye out.

That's what happened, I was wanting to buy a browning 1911-22 or this rifle on the same day but could only afford one or the other. I decided to make a full asking price commintment on the rifle. well the 1911 sold and the rifle fell through 6 days after making my commmintment to him. I feel like one seller ripped me off twice.

Unfortunately, you can't always take a man at his word. It's not uncommon for things like this to happen. You're not the first and you won't be the last.

When I grew up a mans word was his bond.
It seems that it is not so now days as much.
A different time and world. Maybe not for the better. But it is what we have and must live with.

It sucks, but other deals will come your way. Karma is a b!tch, and it settles the score for you, just move on and find a better deal. Like others have said, at least you didn't make the drive and find out he was a no show, that would really suck.
