DHS Places Another Ammunition Order for Sniper Rounds

    150K Rounds of .308.

Specified a particular type of Hornady. The spokesperson that has to explain that one of the latest high-performance rounds, offered by one of the highest-quality ammunition manufacturers in the world, are needed by the DHS for "training" sure has their work cut out for them.

I mean, did they not already get enough in their last few orders?

I wonder if they got an endorsement from Lon Horuchi?

Got to say I admire their taste in ammo. At least when we get picked off by government snipers, it'll be with good stuff and not cheap foreign crap.

"This round would never be used for short-range purposes, nor would it be used for close-quarters tactical use."

The author obviously has no clue of what he/she is writing about. You have a mag full of 168gr TAP, you use it as you need it.

Is "sniper rounds" a technical term?

No honest government needs more than 10 rounds.

I wonder if these are the guys that took out the transformers in San Jose last year? Weren't they described as snipers?

Right, I follow you. There's little or no reason you'd want to fire a .50 BMG at point blank range, but if you did, I bet it would work just fine.

I think what was meant is that a round of this quality is suitable for work at long range, and thus using a round of such high accuracy is essentially wasted for CQB. Oh, it'll work all right. But so would just about any cheap crapola. If you're spending money on high accuracy rounds the way to get best use of them is for long range shooting.

I hear that 168 gr TAP really does a number up close and personal. Don't doubt it one bit.

.308 seems like a pretty big round for a snip.

why do they need anti-personnel rounds?

To shoot personnel?? Isn't that why they carry guns?
