    Egyption FN 49 Legal?

So if you follow the flow chart and it is hard to say if it is legal. There is not much in the way of info that I have found on these rifles. I do not know if they have a muzzle brake or a removable mag. I have seen posts about how they need a tool to remove and that they are designed for stripper clips. Is this true? Does anyone know much about these? Comments are appreciated.

    Thank you

What makes you think it would be illegal? They are "featureless" guns.

Quite a few of us own them.

EDIT: Sorry, just re-read your initial post. 8mm Mauser is the most common round and they have a fixed magazine in that if you try to remove it from the gun (which you can), it disassembles itself. Think Mosin Nagant as it is similiar. You can take the bottom off but the spring, follower, etc., all come pouring out just like the Nagant fixed mag. They have a threaded muzzle and what's on the end is just a "blank" or screw on cap that protects the crown. It's neither a muzzle break or flash hider. This makes it featurless. There are some effective flash hiders or muzzle breaks you can buy to screw on and they work well. Because it has a fixed mag, you can use a flash hider if you prefer.

    Hope this helps.

You should get one as they are a hoot to shoot, though 8mm mauser is becoming more and more expensive.

Be careful of any chambered in .308 and ask questions if you are thinking of one as many (if not all) of these were converted to have a fixed mag. You can still have it, you just have to be more mindful of the flow chart.

I have an Argentinian chambered in 7mm Mauser, it has a muzzle brake on it. The magazine can be removed with a screwdriver or bullet tip(either would be a tool as required by law on 'featured' rifles) but as mentioned, the mag internals fall apart when you do so. There are kits out there that convert it to have a detachable mag, but they are spendy.

Thank you for the replies. This information does help a lot. I have a chance to purchase one for a good price but I was not sure if they are legal. As for 8mm ammo I have plenty of surplus. Will 8mm surplus cycle fine in one or is the commercial better?

        Thank you

The only problem I have encountered with surplus (all my 7mm for my FN is surplus) is hangfires/bad primers

I sold my FN49 a couple years back. Still kicking myself for that one. Sold it around the same time as my Hakim. Stupid me and thinking consolidating calibers was a good idea.

That would be me, hehehe. Shoots great! I'm always on the lookout for the other calibers, but they're getting quite expensive.

Mine cycles anything I feed it. It's my Hakim that prefers the cheap surplus over the "Sniper" surplus. I bought a bunch of sniper thinking it might be fun as I got a good deal once while at J&G in Prescott.

For some reason the Hakim doesn't like it too much, so I need to either adjust the gas block or just use it up in the FN or one of the Mauser bolt guns.
