    Best ammo can size?

What is the best size of ammo can for various boxed ammo? (.45, .223, .38 special)

And where is a good site online to purchase?

I was looking at these but so many to choose from:

50 cal boxes are perfect for me, they are big enough to hold alot of ammo but not so big that loaded they are too heavy, they also work good for under the hood toolboxes for beater 4x4s. Shipping on cans are prohibitive for me because of bulk so I pick them up locally from Auburn Army/Navy ( last time they were $5 each)

I find that the small 7.62 nato ammo can for the M60 is perfect for holding boxes of handgun rounds. It holds a perfect amount for a couple of hours at the range. I would recommend getting several different sizes. I like to hold cleaning gear in one. Rifle rounds in another. You can usually find them cheap at local military surplus stores, or at gun shows. If you go to the gun shows to buy factory reloads from miwall, they come in the small can.

The 50 caliber ones are TINY... I would need about 15 of them for my ammo. What is bigger that can handle a large amount of ammo?

            Thanks

EDIT: The 50 caliber at this surplus store must be some sort of smaller version because the ones on the net look WAY bigger. Anyone have an idea where I could buy these in Los Angeles?

            Thanks

There are "normal" and "big" 50-cal ammo cans. I personally think the normal size ones are the best value, in terms of cubic volume per dollar, and are pretty handy too. They will usually hold 1000 .223 in boxes. Bigger cans cost too much to make it worth it.

You can buy cans online, but the shipping alomst costs more than the cans, so people often get them at gun shows.

                        Try doughboys in bellflower.

                        or MI surplus in pomona.
