Yes most competitors use Anschultz biathlon rifles. Although there are other brands.

P.S. The Olympics use to have 300 meter shooting with centerfires, it included three position and also running deer competition. They still shoot 300 meters in the World Championships (every four years in non-Olympic years). The problem was finding suitable 300 meter ranges and that was hard to do in some countries, so they dropped the centerfire events. Not a big conspiracy or anything just not a lot of interest from all the countries.

before 1975 they used a variety of center fire calibers but sweden was VERY BIG in the sport so i'm guessing 6.5 x 55 was the big dog in the hunt. (guess it would have been anyway)

Good thing the Olympics are not here. We would not be able to have those events due to no ammo.
