Gunbroker, any info about how it works?

I'm looking at going to gunbroker to purchase my next gun since it is imposible to find it locally in San Diego or in LA. It's not list on here either.

Listing Fees are so reasonable. To get registered has changed to my knowledge; some accounts get flagged and then you need to present some I.D.

Done several purchases, had them shipped to a local home based FFL with no issue what so ever. Mind you was careful about vetting and talking to sellers before they got payment. Treat it like ebay and be smart.

Make sure that the seller actually has it in stock. I got caught in a situation once where the FFL was selling based on what he thought he could get from his distributor. Took him a month to fess up that he didn't actually have it, and another two months to get me something comparable.

Make sure they'll ship to CA. Make sure to ship to an FFL that can SSE the pistol if it's not on the roster. I don't even know what's going on with CA laws regarding rebuild kits, so make sure they can ship you 10rnd mags or an FFL that can do the SSE without mags if that's even allowed.

Just keep in mind. The price you pay the seller will not be the price you pay in the end. Tack on the FFL fees. $100+ after ship, DROS and tax. And any other fees that get stuck to you.
That is. If the person ships to Ca and if the gun you want is on roster.

What are you looking for? On roster? Quite a few places in San DIego that can order them without all the FFL - to - FFL fees... also, quite a few places that do SSE's

Yep, a $500 pistol on Gunbroker can end up being a $700 pistol in your hand.

I've used Gunbroker many times and the story has always had a happy ending.

Like others have said, make sure you have a local FFL who is willing to receive a gun you won at auction, and verify what his fees are. Some have been known to gouge $100 or more on paperwork/transfer to "make up" profit they lost out on because you bought a gun somewhere else. It's possible to get ripped off, so go in with eyes/ears open. If someone has a high number of successful transactions and good feedback, the odds are in your favor.

If you are patient and bid smart, you can pick up some good deals. I snagged a NIB IMI Timberwolf for $500 a few years ago, sole bidder. No way you're getting one for that these days. And you have to scout a few weeks or months if you are looking for a good deal. But if you are diligent and keep a sharp eye out, you can snag a steal now and then.

prior to bidding on a gun that's up for auction, ensure that it can be legally transferred to you after shipment to your FFL, and know in advance that the seller is willing to ship the gun to california should you bid and win. be sure that your receiving FFL is onboard with the deal.

each seller/vendor on Gunbroker is independent of other sellers. read all rules of Gunbroker and the seller prior to bidding.

payment options will be stated by each seller. know in advance if there are shipping charges by seller and if so, how much the charges are. shipping information should be posted by seller.

some sellers charge an additional handling charge to california buyers. check for any and all extra charges from the seller before bidding on a gun at auction.

read the feedback rating of the seller prior to bidding; don't just look at the numbers, read the feedback. this is your opportunity to get a take on the level of satisfaction that past buyers have had with the seller.

if you have questions for seller, ask before bidding. if pictures posted don't fully satisfy you, ask for more. make sure that what is pictured is of the actual item you'll be bidding on, or that it is not. this is your pre-sale inspection. i suggest you treat it as such.

if there is a printed return policy, read it. if there is no return policy stated, inquire about this prior to bidding.

keep all written communication between you and seller.

know in advance what your receiving FFL will be charging you (including DROS). get the OTD price you'll be paying to your receiving FFL should you make the purchase; the monies you will pay to your receiving FFL will be separate and in addition to monies paid to seller.

I've made 2 purchases on gunbroker. Both went off without a hitch. There are definitely deals to be had. Just make sure before you bid, you:

1. Make sure your ffl will accept and is able to sse and be able to convert the mags for it if itss off roster. My ffl also sends them a high ca license along with a copy of there ffl.

2. I always call seller before bidding to clarify that they will indeed ship the firearm with magazines(some won't).

3. Clarify any additional fees like, shipping, California shipping fee if they have one, credit card fees.
