    Slick sided upper

Are there any major downfalls to having a slick side upper, No forward assist or case deflector. Gun is not ever going to be used as HD,SHTF, it will be a hunter /plinker.

Forward assist is a non-issue for me for my hunting rigs. Never had to use it. Case deflector can be handy depending on where the rifle likes to spit the brass. I imagine brass trajectory will change with ammo type. I'm actually looking forward to building a slick side .308 soon.

I may be wrong but the one I looked at recently stated it would only accept tall profile round fore grips. So if you were looking to run a quad style low profile it may not work. I was looking at them too, and the other thing is nobody had them in stock darn it!!

Yeah, I'll be using a plain long fore grip no rails at all.

Forward assist.....useless.Shell deflector.....almost useless.Ejection port cover....better than almost useless. Of course situations vary, but mostly these features are useless.

You'll get a hundred different opinions, but those features don't add or subtract from a rifles actual ability to hit your target.Opinions are like buttholes.Mine included.

I have 2 and think they're fine, never had an issue or complaint. If you're looking to save weight, the Rainier Arms is a bit lighter than milspec. The DPMS is a little heavier and is slightly oversized so make sure it doesn't bother you before you get that one.

Not true in my case, I am lefty and I have 2 slick side upper receivers. No problem whatsoever. Never been hit by a single case through many hundreds of rounds.

I have a DPMS one. It is built solidly and very rigid. I don't need the deflector or the other parts so it looks balanced.

Slick side is SLICK! I wish they were more readily available during my last few builds, I ended up overpaying, but would do it again.

First you are chopping up historic vintage rifles and sticking them in cheap and nasty looking plastic "dildo" stocks that look like some kind of futuristic sex toy that gay space aliens stick up each other's butts.

Forward assist? I don't think I've ever used one for what it was intended for in 20+ years or AR shooting. Brass deflector? The brass seems to always eject between 1:00 to 4:00 on the slick side I own. Maybe a problem for lefties, but that's not me. Ejection port cover? One less little set of parts to fiddle with during assembly.

Once you go slick you never go back.
