    Two parts:
    1. Gun control laws are made by people who's entirety of firearm knowledge comes from movies. Thus, silencers = assassin weapons
    2. Silencers make guns quieter. Quiet guns aren't as scary. Guns that aren't scary are harder to ban

My dad runs suppressed rifles back in the U.K. A couple of farmers require it when shooting on their land, he thinks it's the polite thing to do wether they ask or not.

However, he can't license his hunting rifle for anything but hunting. He has to have a separate rifle and license for target shooting.

I watched the whole thing shutdown on guns in the UK as I was growing up. The above is right, the UK got everything banned or crazy regulated so fast suppressors didn't need legislating against.

I love suppressors, its common curtesy here, when i took my long rifle to the range, the whole line jumped because no one was wearing ear pro...

Spelling errors aside, this is pretty much it. Buuuuuut I have a few ideas I've pitched to a couple people who have said I'm thinking on the right track but there's baby steps to take before we can even begin worrying about suppressors.

It was the game wardens and fear of poaching that got silencers in the NFA. It was the middle of the Depression, lots of people lived in rural areas, and a deer or anything else that moved put meat on the table.

Not to be pedantic, but what spelling errors?

Supressors would improve the quality of life of many. I know if I PCS to Colorado I will immediately pay for the stamp for a supressor. Not sure yet what caliber to go with. Imagine noise complaints for ranges and such being reduced.

Sorry, grammar heh. "Who's" vs "whose". Late night mildly intoxicated posting...

Suppressors are also encouraged in New Zealand. There is a video of a young guy in New Zealand shooting a supressed SKS off his back porch.

The 1934 NFA was the worst gun control act in the history of this country. We were in the middle of a horrible depression and FDR and his cronies wanted you to pay nearly $4,000 for a suppressor and other gun items. Insane. I can't believe there wasn't an outright revolt right then and there.
