it has been mentioned that UPS and Fedex don't really offer insurance on shipments, that you are paying them additional money due to the "stated value" but that you aren't purchasing insurance. It has been claimed that it is rare to get Fedex to pay out on a claim.
I mentioned that I have shipping insurance through my Firearms insurance plan and was request to make a new thread about it.
I haven't personally used it but it is in my Policy from Collectibles Insurance Services. In it, it has the following limits:
$25,000 for "Class 1 - Signatured Required Shipment sublimit (Registered Mail, Express Mail, Fedex, and other carriers except UPS)"
$10,000 for "Class 2 - Signature Required Shipment sublimit (USPS Insured, Certified and Signature Confirmations Mail and UPS)"
$200 for "Class 3 - No Signature Required Shipment sublimit (USPS First Class, Priority Mail, Air Mail, Global Priority Mail, Parcel Post, Bound Printed Matter, Media Mail (Book Rate))"
I should call them to see if the shipping insurance covers incoming firearms accessories as well as just firearms (the policy covers firearms and firearms equipment including ammo). not sure when they consider it to be "my covered items", is that at time of purchase from the vendor or once it makes it to my door. Same goes for outgoing sales. I assume that its mine until it makes it intact to the buyer (or the buyer's FFL), but since I don't sell anything, it hasn't been a concern.
I assume that the other Firearms insurance companies, such as Historic and Core-Vens, offer similar shipping insurance with their Polices.
