In reality, there are two different scenarios:

Short term (riot, localized disaster)
• AR-15 in 5.56
• semi 12 gauge
• 1911

Endurance (collapse of society)
• Over under 12 gauge
• Bolt action .22
• .357 magnum revolver

All 6 are in common/available cartridges, but the short term firearms sacrifice durability for ease of use and quick fire rate. The long term firearms are giving up rate of fire for simpler mechanisms that should work forever. Either way, if it really does hit the fan, I'm not going to be lugging around three weapons and ammo for all

Ruger GP100--goes bang every time, easy to save brass, shoots .38s, shot, and full house .357 magnums.
Mossberg 500--load up slugs and take any animal in North America. Shoot birds. Shoot rabbits. Send flares...grappling hooks....
AR15--America's rifle. True SHTF, I want the standard US Rifle.

I'm a fan of bullpups to save space, first 2 guns are .22 because I figure I would be able to carry plenty of that ammo and make it last. They would be secondary arms or used for hunting small game so I dont have to waste the 5.56 on squirrels. Lol

I already have the 3 typical good SHTF guns.

AR-15 that I assembled myself with all top brand components.
Glock 17
Mossberg 590a1

All tested for durability at the range and kept well maintained.

Now no way ide be able to carry all these with ammo if on foot, unless bugging out in a vehicle.

10mm and a mech tech upper
Tikka in .300wm. Removable Magazine fed. Probably 1-200 rounds, I do not know how heavy that much is.
Ruger 10-22 300-1000 rounds .22.

With these it covers small to large game, short to long range. And the weight is easily manageable. And space would not be consumed.

A good scoped gun will be essential in a SHTF type of world. Look at real life SHTF events like Syria. It's a snipers war right now. I wouldn't take my SIG 556 with me because I don't plan on getting into gun fights as my plan is to keep my head down and stay out of sight.
30-06 for long range defense and bigger game hunting
22LR for hunting small game and what not
12G for both defense and hunting.
