    what is the $ amount?

What is the dollar amount that would make you go to a out of town gun store? Since I'm sure it depends on how much, let's say a $600 gun.

Difficult to say, because that means making 2 trips, one to buy, one to pick up after 10 days. That's 2 round trips eating my gas. I usually won't leave san diego just because there's not much savings so far.

If I could save $100, after taking into account my gas and time, I would drive maybe an additional 30 minutes.

Not sure what you are asking. I would not go to an out-of-town gun store to pay $600 for a Glock worth $600. Now, if they have something hard-to-find, like an off-roster gun being sold on consignment...then it might be worth the trip.

Shortly before 1/1/14 I drove from Sac to L.A. and back in one day to purchase a C&R long gun. I got a good deal on it.

I meant if LGS had a gun for $600 and a out of town shop had the same one cheaper, how much of savings would make it worth it go out of town.

Where I live, EVERY gun store is "out of town". The closest is 20 miles away and only sells long guns (Big5). For pistols it's usually an 80 mile trip (each way).

Depends on what it is and how bad I wanted it. Also if I could combine the trip with other things I would enjoy.

Clearly you have access to the interweb. I wouldn't drive any farther than a local FFL who isn't a naked profiteer.

For something like this then i would travel a good distance.

I would not go frome san diego to L.A. to get lets say a gen 4 G26 because SSE would most likely be the same after we factor gas/time.

Mostly all of my guns that I've purchased new I would just drive to rifle gear and buy them there because they always had the guns I wanted in stock such as SCAR, LWRC IC SPR, OPAP, PTR and ect and also I would do PPT at the same time there.. Usually about 1 1/2 hour drive competing from Moreno Valley. It has always been worth the drive for example my local gun store would sell a SCAR for 3k and RG 2600!

Depends entirely on how far "out of town" is and how much you're saving. I'm not going to drive an hour away for a total of 4 hours being stuck in the car guzzling gas and bored just to save $100 on a common gun. So in your scenario if the LGS had a common gun for $600 and the hour away shop had it for $500, unless I had some other reason to be in the vicinity of that out of town shop, I wouldn't even bother.

Now if the shop an hour or whatever away had something that the LGS can't get, maybe. Depends on what it is, what the price is, and how interested I really am. But at some point, the money spent on gas and time sitting in the car is going to be trumped just by shipping and your local FFL transfer fee if you really want some rare specimen anyway. The less common the gun, the better the price, the further I might be inclined to travel if for some reason I can't just have it shipped.

If I want it & no one else has it, I don't care, I'm going. I'll drive to Riflegear before going to Turners which is 10 mins away. It could simply be about availability, as stated.

Ya... I hear'ya... I would've traveled mmmmmmmm... not more than sayyy 250 miles for that Colt Python.

I can't think of another gun I would go that far... maybe a CZ CBOB... if the price was right

About two years ago i was willing to drive two hours each way for a rare pistol. it's all about how much one wants the firearm, if it's just a price thing then i'd factor in gas and time. So if the firearm sells everywhere else for $600, i better get it for $525.
