What do you think of this?

I found one of these for a great price ($399) what do you think of it - is it better then an 870 Express (looking to replace my old shotgun)?

Now I don't know exactly what that thing is on the end of the barrel but it looks neat.

I think it holds 6 shots and I do like the pistol grip only configuration, I am very accurate with it at the range up to around 10'.

I heard the end is for door breaching? Like breaking down doors (I am sure a sledge hammer would do a better job) But what is it really for?

This or an 870 Express? How will this finish hold up to humidity and rust?

It's a Mossberg pump so that makes it a no for me. It's designed for opening doors, and slinging on your gear not a primary weapon system. Defensive shotguns without a stock are not a good idea.

Yeah, that thing on the front is for door breaching. I don't know how many doors you plan on breaching, but it sure does ooze tacticool.

It's great for HD because once you run out of shot shells/slugs, you can give the intruder a nice mark on the forehead with that serrated crown on the muzzle!

As for door breaching, my FFL has a bunch of these in stock and told me that you hold it up to the door and pull the trigger to blast door locks and hinges out to breech and enter a place.

Also, since you inquired about 870 vs. a mossberg 500. I favor the 870 by a looongshot. A closer comparison would be the 870 vs. 590, even then I prefer the controls and build quality over the Mossberg pump guns.

Plus, can't beat the steel receiver. If you run out of ammo, you can kill someone by throwing it at them.
