Long Gun registration

Ok, at this point I'm confused as hell.

I just purchased a Tikka T3 (PPT), and I'm confused do I have to fill out this form http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/volreg.pdf and send it out to DOJ, or is my rifle already registered when I paid for the DROS?

Then why was everyone talking about how starting 2014 long guns would have to be registered for an additional fee just like handguns. Weren't they always registered since DROS has been around for awhile?

Nope - until 2014, no information was collected on long guns, just 'existence'. No additional fee, same old DROS.

And in theory they didn't even keep track of who DROSd a long arm, right?

Think of it this way: when you buy pistols you don't pay any extra fees to register them. The same is true of rifles now.

Ye, I read that before the year records were destroyed after 5 days, at least they're being a bit more honest now.
