--Driving two hours to Taft to buy my first OLL from 10%. Banding all my buddies together a week later to drive out to CWS for their OLL's. This was during a dark and heavy rainstorm, when Hector was still dealing out from his backyard. "Two weeks!"

That's hardcore.

I only did the drive to Hector's and Michelles, standing on my doorsill trying to get reception to call everyone i know to buy a lower before they get listed in TWO WEEKS.

And buying a Lauer lower in case the Rock Rivers didn't make the list since it's already listed... just not as LAR-15.

Those were the days.. I even found the old print-up price list from CWS in my old car.

1. My dad taking my brother and I shooting down at the old sand creek wash with his .22 rifle
2. My dad deciding to be a jerk and handing me, his 8 year old daughter, his old 12 ga. Stevens-Savage. Nearly falling down and getting a bruise.
3. Making him proud shooting trap with that same old shotgun at age 12.
4. Getting my first .22 rifle under the Christmas tree at 12, then shooting and eating my first rabbit.
5. Inheriting his guns after he passed away.
6. Living in the country, and chasing off intruders (who were shooting in our orchards) with a shotgun.
7. Buying my first handgun, a CZ SP-01.
8. Taking a road trip with my girlfriend through the Eastern Sierra and Death Valley to take a Front Sight class together.
9. Buying her her first handgun, a Glock 19.

When my Father bought me a Remington 870 12g for my 13th birthday.

First gun was bought at the SJ gun show when I was 8 (yeah, back when the gun shows rocked). My dad bought me a Daisy lever action. We then went to my Grandma's house in Fremont and shot it in the front yard all day long.

2. Buying my 1st handgun at 18 (legal, private party).

3. Carrying concealed in AZ and NV

4. Buying my son his 1st gun at 11 (break open 12 ga)

5. Buying my daughter her 1st gun at 11 (break open .410)

6. Turkey hunting with my kids...

7. Receiving my grandfathers service gun (badge, and hat)

shooting match ammo out of my sig 556. i realized it could actually hit what i was aiming at.

this one sounds weird but swapping the control lever detente plates between my usps while installing an ambi control lever on one of them (the reason to access the detente plate). i realized that i could have a truly ambi gun that was not hard to actuate the safety on. (the detente plate for one was not quite in spec or something, but it was in spec enough for the other usp.)

I remember the first time I shot a gun. An ex-Marine friend took me and his 10/22 to an abandoned road bed near Willow Creek, CA in Humboldt County. I aimed at a bottle across this canyon and hit it with my first shot.

I was hooked. I went to Big 5, bought a 10/22, and became a Life Member of the NRA via the "Easy Pay Life" program all on the same day. It was 1991 and I was 21 years old. That gun was stolen but I have given the NRA thousands since. In fact, my son was born a Life Member in 2006.

Happy memories.

In no particular order.

1. The first time shooting when I was 14 (.22 rifle).

2. Buying my 1st handgun on my 21st birthday (Beretta 92FS, still have it)

3. Getting a headshot on a man sized target with an M1A Standard at 1,000 yards after having all the guys with fancy expensive bolt action rifles telling me my gun can't make the shot.

Abercrombe and Finch in San Francisco......Dad bought me a Browning Sweet 16......went shopping with dad and his hunting partner who lost his gun when he almost drowned at Grizzly Island..... I was only 13.

The next weekend they found and fished out his partner's 1100!

How times have changed.. now all they do is sell trendy clothing with a bunch of college aged kids working there. What else did they used to sell?

They used to sell hunting knives as well I think.

My father died in 1976 at the age of 44 - relatively old for the men in my family. About 1975 we went to Joppa Flats of Newburyport, MA scouting out places to do some jump shooting during duck hunting season that fall. He had his new Ruger Standard 22 pistol with him. As we scouted out the marshes for a place to settle, about 150 yards away a sandpiper was stopping & starting its run across a sandbar.

"Even though there's no chance you could ever hit it" my Father said as he emphasized the point "Never, ever point a gun at anything you don't want to shoot" as he squeezed off a haphazard shot at the sandpiper to prove the point. I'm sure he would have been happy hitting the water or sand bar.

About 2 seconds after he pulled the trigger, the poor sand piper stopped in mid stride & fell over in the middle of the sandbar as dead as could be from this one in a million shot. My dad looked at the Ruger, looked downrange at the bird that had kerplopped dead in midstride. Never to miss making a point my Dad (as surprised as anyone but unknown to me covering up) turned said without missing a beat "See - that proves my point".

Still have the gun, will probably never sell it.

One time I was way up in a wilderness area and met an old sourdough trapper. He let me tag along with him as he did his trap line. Really cool old guy and he knew a lot of neat stuff. That's what I want to do when I retire.

Imagine a Cabela's in downtown San Francisco.....Trophy mounts on the walls, book hunting trips....fishing.....camping gear. I've even heard they had a firing range in the basment, can't verify it. I never saw it.
